MERCEDES ML W164 key fob replacement

My wife has a 2002 W164 500ml, and the key-fob transponder has packed up. We have changed the batteries but no luck. Mercedes Colindale inform us that Mercedes no longer sells replacement keys/keyfobs for this year of vehicle. Any ideas? I presume that there could be someone out there who sells a transponder receiver that is plug-n-go, with a new fob to operate, but nothing is leaping out at me from a Google search. Any ideas please?

Thanks, I shall give them a try (realise it is a W163, with the chunky 'flick-knife' fob). I shall let you know how I get on!
