GLA45 2015/16, anybody had one, thoughts?
Discussion
Hi
I am looking for a new (to me) family car and the GLA45 looks to be a strong possibility. My budget is c£30k and this seems to get a sensible mileage 2015 or 2016. I notice that power goes up from 355 to 375bhp for 2016 onwards, is it worth paying a bit more for the newer car?.
Does anybody have hands-on experience and thoughts on ownership/reliability/economy etc? I will be trading/selling my 2003 ML270cdi which I have had since new and has now done 165k, I fancy something with decent performance but do not want a 3rd car again since I sold my 911.
Re optional extras is there anything useful the standard car does not come with - e.g. sat nav, heated seats, parking sensors, rain sensing wipers etc? Full leather seems quite rare, also the performance exhaust, are these worth holding out for?
Any thoughts much appreciated.
Phil

I run a 2016 GLA45. I'm not sure it's worth paying more for the 20bhp, but the model did receive wee trim, spec, software and other small differences over time so get the latest model you can afford would be my advice.
I'm approaching 20k miles and it's been wholly reliable. Economy is well under advertised figures. Short urban journies in particular will be dire - the cold start cycle seems to chomp fuel. And any load on the engine also guzzles so hooning will result in comically low numbers. I am currently averaging 29.4mpg indicated over 12k miles. But that seems a little better than what most folk report.
Performance is excellent and all sorts of silly noises can be had with the AMG exhaust and sport+/Race modes.
Standard car doesn't come with much. But I haven't seen many standard cars. Many options come in packs, so ordering one means you get a handful. I think I have all options except Command, ILS and the diff.
If the car doesn't have command, make sure the SatNav files are up-to-date. There was quite a big change about the middle of my ownership which massively improved the interface. Also ensure gearbox and engine software are bang up to date (this isn't checked as part of the normal dealer routine). There's also an airbag safety recall in force on a number of cars., Make sure that's done before you collect (more for convenience than any great threat).
For me, I think the AMG Exclusive pack really makes the interior, deleting all the red trim and cloth and replacing with (in my case) black leather and silver details.
Happy hunting!
