Hello all

I've been thinking over the last few weeks of what to change my C63 saloon to. I'm by no means bored of it, infact I still love it, but ive had it two years and I just feel I'm ready to entertain something different. Because I do still enjoy the car, the move would have to be a good one.

The c63 is used as a second 'mess around' car, as I sit on the M4 all week in a 56 plate 530d which does work duties very well indeed.

For a budget of circa £75k I'm struggling for anything that properly jumps out at me that can atleast match or of course better the 6.2's noise, torque and charisma.. and its generous spec. I don't need 5 doors or masses of practicality as I have the work car for that, but I would entertain selling both and using one larger car for both work and play.

I've looked at all sorts, complete and utter chalk and cheese list with no real requirement as long as its fast, torquey, nice spec and special/rare ish. I do about 7-8k miles a year in the AMG, 12-15k in the work car.

Facelift Audi R8 V10. went to see one Saturday and the interior alone was a huge turn off..it was a glorified S Line A3/A4/TT!
BMW X5M
Range Rover SVR
Aston V12 Vantage
Aston DBS
BMW M6 GC
Nissan GTR - bit on the fence with these as I've never properly loved them
Mercedes G350d or Range Rover Vouge 4.4tdv8 AB (and then using this as work and pleasure and selling work car)
And If I really stretched my budget by a good £10k, I'd consider a G63 as its just an itch I need to scratch at some point.

Would also entertain some sort of young classic in the form of a 355 but from reading i'd be left very disappointed in the performance department. The car wont be garaged which also rules this out a little more.

Not interested in anything Lotus/TVR and keeping the change etc etc.

If you did have a C63, what have you changed it too?

Sorry have never had a C63 so can't help based on direct experience but would have thought Porsche would be a fairly common next step. I certainly have mates who have gone that direction. Is there any reason you haven't looked at a 991 yet?

Keep the C63, prices are going to rise next year as good cars become harder to find. As for an upgrade you can either go larger towards a Panamera, M5 or M6, or smaller into a real coupe such as Cayman, Exige, SL or old school Ferrari if wanting a real toy. I love my C63 and cannot think of changing it even if the new one is turbocharged.....nasty.

Wishful thinking, although I would love to be proved wrong

I had a similar (hehe) issue to you...I got rid of my W204 C63 estate for something from the Italian stables...yep...A three grand 10 year old Alfa 159 estate...but enough of my "possible" redundancy contingency plans...

Out of your list I'd look at the AM V12.

I personally think you've got one of the best engines ever made and I'd want to try a V12 before they become obsolete/unreachable. If you've managed to put up with the W204's media system then I'm guessing you're not too worried about all the little trinkets put in by Audi/BMW/RR and maybe you're 'engine' led? I've never had a V12 but would like one sometime soon.

Whatever you do end up with, given your shortlist, make sure you start a readers car thread thumbup

It's funny Irfan we bought our cars at a very similar time (changed my username since then) and on Sunday I sold my C63.

I got a good price for it and it only cost me 2k in depreciation in 2 years. I've been absolutely gutted about selling it all week and actually tried to buy it back the day after.

I'm trying to get over it tomorrow by starting my next car viewings and I'm looking at Corvette Stingray (look at the engine and you will know why) and a Lotus Exige V6S.

I'm basically hoping to try something a bit different and 'purpose built.' Make sure you want to sell though as a part of me still feels I've made a mistake.

Before my C63 V8, i had a VXR8 6.2 V8. One of the best sounding cars i've owned, especially after i put a wortec exhaust system on it shortly after buying the car. Sold VXR8 last September, had a C63 by end of November.

Not the best build quality but what a car, got lots of attention and quite rare to be honest. Great motorway cruiser though. Probably nothing like what you're looking for, but just thought i would share this.

Alfa Giulia Q4 is worth a try. Quicker than the 63 and an all round cracker of a car.

Alas rubbish to own and the build quality is well below a facelift C63. Odd how many of these are on sale with low mileage for a very new car.

I had a Monaro VXR a good few years prior to owning my C63. The Merc is totally anonymous in comparison.

The Monaro got attention everywhere it went. I had great fun in it, but it is fairly old school technology and very rough around the edges.

I was seriously looking at C63 facelift estates... but in the end I got a 13 year old CLS55.
Therefore my opinion is irrelevant smile
But for 75k I'd be looking at Granturismos - genuine (ish) 4 seater, and I would imagine a complete event every time you open the garage door.

I've done just this, though not the MC Stradale version above (which looks stunning btw). I went for a facelift Maserati Granturismo MC Autoshift still under Maserati warranty, lots of carbon fibre bits and whilst the in-car tech is very old school, it is a stunning car and sound / occasion is on a whole different level to the C63. Probably a bit slower than my C63 PP+ but to be honest who in the UK really gets to the top 20% of a performance cars capability......the Maserati has the edge that, at 30mph, it is still an experience to enjoy.

Gets attention in a positive way too, and genuinely useable 4 seater. I am very pleased with it and an MC Stradale if you have a £75k budget would be a great choice and may well hold it's value reasonably well.
