Hi.

Has anyone had this fitted yet, if so, is it any good. I believe its a free of charge add on.

Regards.

Dave.

Yes. The Mercedes me is free, but the adaptor is about £10 quid.

TBH - Does not really do much. You can do more with an OBD2 reader. Useful if you want to view info on the web, but otherwise just use Torque on your phone

I use the Mercedes me (built in) on my GTS - good
I use the Mercedes me (adaptor) on my SLK - so, so. I just usually keep the OBD2 bluetooth adaptor plugged in and use Torque

I've just bought a new Merc V class and got given one of these. I can't really see the point if it unless you pay for extra services which also seem pretty pointless. I suspect its more use to Mercedes to monitor usage and tell you you need pads or a service or something.
Will probably delete the app

Mercedes have offered me one for free. Will get it fitted at the next service and see how useful it is.

It has some useful functions and some irritations.

-ve I wish it was more reliable. For some reason it will decide not to log a journey every so often, which is annoying when I use it to track business mileage. But hey, it's software driven and software is something that Mercedes aren't that good at.

+ve Ability to send an address from iPhone to the car via Mercedes Me (and then through POI in Comand) is very useful

On balance = it's free, it's vaguely useful so it's a good thing.

Thanks for the reply.

My car is booked in for monday to have it done.

I don't know why they cannot just post it to me really. Its only a plug in device i believe.

Regards.

Dave.

I understand if they post one to you then not all the functions will work. The dealer has to do some sort of recoding of the car to permit the adaptor to access all the features on the car.
May be bullst.

So annoying as you have to allow and press several buttons every time you get in the car. Something to do with IPHONE but I’ve unplugged mine as it was doing my head in!!!!!

A year on from my previous post = I’ve removed the Mobile Me adaptor.

Has a habit of running down the battery and causes issues with the dynamic seating. Adaptor installed and 25% of the time the dynamic seating is off when you start the car. Adaptor removed and the seating is fine. Leave the car for a week and the battery’s flat.

Having registered for Mobile Me I get the benefits of being able to send addresses to COMAND without the adaptor installed.

Another example of Mercedes not quite getting it right due to poor software.
Thanks goodness they don’t make areoplanes and let’s hope they don’t try to make a self driving car.

I removed the adaptor from mine as well. Pointless waste.

Replaced it with Torque/Carley and a bluetooth OBDII reader. Much more useful

I've just bought a 2012 c220 coupe with the me adaptor fitted. The seller made a big thing about how great it is, so I loaded the app, but can't pair with the car as it's already registered to the previous owner's phone.

Reading up on what it can do, it really does seem a bit pointless, so I can't be bothered with a 70 mile round trip to the dealer to change the registration.

Can I just unplug the adaptor from the OBD port without causing any problems?
The adaptor means I can't close the OBD port cover, and it'll just drain the battery if I leave it there.

An old thread resurrected, so I just want to give some up to date info on Mercedes me.
When you buy a new Mercedes you get Mercedes me with all major functions free of charge for 3 years.
The car communicates wirelessly (no adapter) with your phone via the app.
The app has 2 screens and the home screen is customisable with your favourite features.
I find it very useful and check it almost every day.

I have one fitted in my 2011 C class

I appreciate that with newer models it has more functionality but for mine, it does the square root of F'all

Cant see there being any issue if you remove it.

I had to get a key cut today, as the car only came with one key.
As the key has to be programmed via the OBD port, I removed the Mercedes me adaptor before setting off.

No problems at all.

you can't do anything on it on my car (2016 C63s). It seems to just want me to pay for stloads of subscriptions in order to view any data or do any cool stuff. Pointless.

The app only has full and free functionality for 3 years from first registration, and that functionality has increased in recent years.
The app also changes to a seasonal Christmas theme at this time of year. smile

The useful items on the app, such as range, fuel level, tyre pressures etc, stopped showing on my phone a couple of months ago.

Called in at dealership to see what could be done. After weeks of faffing around, it amounted to nothing. Still not working.

I hit the SOS button in the car, ( as suggested by the dealership), and got put through to 'Merc Me' control centre, ( eventually !) Chap there tells me it is a known problem with the system and they are working on a fix for it. They will e mail me when its sorted. Could be weeks away from a fix though.

I agree that there are a number of useless things on there that have absolutely no value to me. Geofencing for instance.

I think Mercedes are tapping into their wealthy customers who are willing to pay for every conceivable thing that's related to their car. ''If its on the App, i must have it''. Sod that !!

Geofencing and Speed Alert can be useful if your car is ever left in the care of another party.

This is my second Merc with full functionality of the app in both cases and provided totally free.
