Any thoughts on the 2017 E class coupe AMG?
Discussion
Have no experience of them ... but did have a good look round a couple of examples at the Brooklands showroom when I went to buy a new C63 AMG Coupé.
I think they look great. It's a handsome car from most angles. The profile is good, more so with all windows down, the front and rear are also very nice looking.
The revamped interior is a big step up, it looks like a really classy place to sit. I'm also a fan of the new digitised instrument clustering.
Had MB decided to build a V8 range-topper E-class coupé for the UK market, i'd probably have gone for that rather than the C-class.

I was interested in an E400C. My local dealer, who supplied our SLK ( and others within about 50 miles) couldn’t get me one.
Eventually I managed to get a test about 150 miles away (I happened to be passing).
The car was pretty good. Very quick, quiet, lovely engine. A bit wallowy and ‘disconnected’ In comparison with my, at the time, 5 series. ‘A road cruiser’ is about right.
The interior is very nice, though the trim options, especially on the 400, are quite limited.
Being satisfied with the engine aspect I asked my local dealer for an extended test in whatever he could get and was promised a 220 for a couple of days. I waited a couple of weeks with nothing forthcoming, happened to pass my local Jag dealer, tried the XF and ordered one.
No regrets, the XF leaves the Merc and BMW for dead in terms of ride and handling, even if it’s not so accomplished in terms of fit, finish and tech. (It’s not far off, to be fair).
My experience with the Jag leads me to think the 400 would have been the wrong choice of engine for me. I went for the 250ps, 2.0T, 25t, which is likely comparable with the E300 engine. For me it’s more than enough, and I think, given the nature of the E Coupe’s chassis, enough for most owners of that.

I ordered the Cabriolet version last year but then changed my mind at the last minute and bought an Audi TT instead. They are very nice but the size just seems excessive.
As per some of the other comments I'd look at the 4-series. I think the C-Class Coupe should be getting a facelift quite soon too so worth considering?

I agree that neither the XF or the F Type are direct competitors class wise but the 440i isn’t, IMO, a competitor in any sense. Much smaller, nowhere near the build quality and completely different character. At least the XF is similar in size. Slightly bigger I believe. Again in my opinion, the E Coupe is a different thing altogether than the C Class derivatives. Depends what you want of course.
In my experience a 5GT would be more of a comparison to the new E Coupe, albeit it’s got extra doors. Perhaps a bit ugly?
