Hello,

Could somebody please point me in the direction of a recommended Merc specialist who can replace the wiring loom on my '94 SL600? Also curious on likely costs?

I am based in North London but happy to travel...a bit!

Thanks in advance

Call either Tony Leach, aka the "Merc Doctor "and MB Club technical advisor (located in Herts) or Si-Leck in Kent.

I'm afraid the throttle bodies, MAFs and the starter/alternator harness may need doing too.

Hi,

Thanks so much for that. Yes, the MAF's and throttle bodies will also need some attention. Going to be fun...

I was also recommended to Edward Hall ? Is he well known?

I will call the others too. Thanks again smile

Edward Hall started up 2-3 years ago, seems to have a built a fairly strong reputation in that time for selling quite good examples of the breed.

I visited once to test drive a car and they were fine, probably more of a sales outfit than a mechanical or body repair place. But PH'er Strela took his R107 there for a total mechanical and bodywork do-over, after being let down quite badly by other well-known specialists, and had a good experience, if rather strenous on the wallet.

I expect EH will sub-contract the work to either of the people I've already mentioned though, so why not cut out the middleman? There are connectors which are NLA, so the person doing the work needs to know how to take off the old wiring and re-use the connectors.

It will be expensive but when done the value of your car will be boosted IMHO.

As a comparison on pricing there's Victor at Restoreyourmercedes.com in NYC

I learn a lot from watching his videos.

Will spend some time this evening having a look through those vids, thanks.

The car seems to be fine, just occasionally the ASR light comes on so my instinct is to panic - and then be all belts and braces so it never happens again.

I had a long chat with Tony so will get it into a garage he recommended so they can work together to diagnose the issues.

Will report back the findings.

Thanks again.

If you can remove the harnesses, there's an outfit in Germany I came across, kabelbaumschule (I think) that may be of service to you...

Sileck in Kent are brilliant - I have re-wired two R129 SL500s using their looms. Highly recommended.

Just to conclude the loom issue, it went into Edward Hall, who with the help of Tony sorted them out. There were quite a few other bits and bobs they sorted and the bill came to £2.6k all in.

Still a very cool car. IMHO
