Mercedes recalls
Discussion
Hi,
I have a recall notice on my 2012 C180 for a fix to an airbag issue. The main dealer has told me there are actually two outstanding recalls for my car but I am only aware of the one I have just received. Anyone know how I can find out what the other one is for as the MB recall site I see is US based.
Can members confirm there should be no charge for the recall work as I have heard of some dealers ( not just MB) who have been charging for so-called related work which is not part of the actual recall.
Thanks

As above, the gov site lists the safety recalls, alternatively try the main MB site:
http://mercedes-benz.custhelp.com/app/answers/deta...
Why not ask the MB dealer what the other recall is?
If it is a safety recall then there should be no charge, anything they charge for is optional and you can say no.

Thanks folks,
I have asked another main dealer about the second recall and await their reply. When I was told by the first dealer they wanted the car for a few hours I became suspicious having been told that another dealer was doing twenty airbag fixes a day!
Cheers

More than likely it won't take them that long, just gives them opportunity to fit other work in around that job.

My letter about the Airbag recall said to do nothing (unless the light came on) and they would contact me to make a booking, that was a couple of months ago so I guess I'd better contact them and get it booked it, the recall doesn't show up on the DVLA system for mine.
My letter said I should contact a dealer on receipt of the letter and if the airbag light came, on stop driving the car and call the MB help number. My car didn't show on the DVLA system either but they also said to contact a main dealer.
There is a difference between a recall and a rectification/product improvement..
Recalls are where the requirement is safety critical and must be carried out, all others are the manufacturers making good a potential or minor issue.
When you book your car in look at the job card. There will be a box for you to sign, it is a requirement of every manufacturer's warranty process. Just check that you are not authorising work up to a value and there will be no cost.
Previous poster is correct. They want the car for half a day to fit it into existing work. Recalls/reworks pay peanuts so need to be juggled around the diary, especially where there is a high volume or affected vehicles.
Recalls/reworks have changed dramatically over the last 20 years. It used to be a huge deal and rarely occurreed. Now it is common to have half a dozen issued per week and some will only concern a handful of cars. The tractability of parts and high standards of data analysis means fault identification is far more efficient.
