Looking at buying a used AMG GTS - Any owner views?
Discussion
Been looking at AMG GT's since they first arrived on the market. Wasn't sure about the shape at first but now love it.
I see the prices have tumbled well under £100k now for a low mileage GTS but slightly worried about the 2018 facelift knocking prices still further. I'm not totally convinced with the Panamericana grill either but it does differentiate the front end. I don't think it can be added latter as it has active aero dynamics built in.
Just sold an F-Type, before that an i8, 911.1, etc.
Down to one colour brilliant blue and have quite a few to choose. Any comments on the ride? is it overly firm even in normal road setting? Had a drive of my mates AMG C43 and I thought the ride was far too brittle.
Seems performance is good, not interested in track days and not bothered a 911 Turbo can run rings around it. More for cruising around Europe and want the performance but not shake all my fillings out in the process... (I have a lot of fillings!)
What are the servicing costs second year too if anyone knows?
Comments please? Off to see 2 today and you can bet I'll buy one...

I've only driven one once and that was owned by a client in UAE.
I'm assuming you are looking for one in the UK. I'm not sure I'd want one on UK roads but drive it and decide for yourself.
As for values, well, the facelift is not going to help but I can't see them dropping massively.

I used to have a 2015 brilliant blue GTS. Great car in every way possible but the ride is hard. I also thought the car had too much road noise from the wide rear tires and so changed the set of Michelins to Dunlops. I sold the car on after less than a year having convinced myself that it was too noisy....and have regretted it ever since. It was only a deal of the century that made me p/x for an Aston. But I still question why I was looking around if I really liked the car so much. The relationship with the Aston didn't last long either but I haven't gone back to the Merc even though I have made some enquiries about GTS's in black and Grey.
Personally I prefer the original front end of the GTS and don't think the Panamerica suits it like it does suit the GTC and the GTR.
Good luck and regards, Brin

Hi Alex
Great colour choice! I thought the blue looked good as I see so many black/grey/white/silver ones. Blue can be a tricky colour though and often dates far quicker than the others. Solar Beam was my no.1 choice but didn't want to go with the black interior which they usually have.
It was delivered yesterday, had my auto-electrician fitting cameras etc. to the car as it arrived. Be interested to see what you've done to the inside? I chose this one because it’s got white and black Napa leather which whilst a stupid colour to have your seats in, I prefered it to a dark interior.
How do you find the ride after 6 months say? The previous guy sold it after just 6 weeks because he found it too firm?

Hi!
I have a video of the re-trim changes I did here...
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7xeKOv0fq50
...they were mainly to change the all black internal scheme to something
that was broken up with blue and also to improve the quality of the leather
that was used on the seats. The blue is alcantara and does not show up
as well as it could in the video as it is a darker colour than the video implies.
Unfortunately, I have not had the opportunity to drive it a huge amount since
I got it as I spend most of my globetrotting on business, so only been able
to drive it about 400-600 miles last year. I found it to be fine to drive. It is not
as sharp as my old Evora, but has more presence on the road, more power
and is quite happy down the cr*p country roads were I live and does not suffer
from being too stiff.
I prefer it to my Aston for driving, but it is not the car I use as my daily driver when
in the UK at the weekend.I have an SLK AMG which I use for that. I use the GTS for
GT driving around the UK when I want something that is different. It is firmer than my
SLK or Aston, but works fine on the road for me and has a great looking interior which
is a nice place to be.
If I want something insane to drive I use one of my other cars
It is a halfway house between something practical to use and something that
is sporty and powerful.
As far as work to do on it, well, I have some things I am planning, but I have 4
other project cars to get through first
That help?

Hey Alex, good on you for being brave enough to retrim, that can't have been an easy job.
Pity you did so few miles in it though last year. I've been there over the last 25 years or so but now semi-retired I have a lot more time on my hands to actually put miles on the cars I own.
Went out for the first drive this afternoon and it feels tight probably because the car has only covered 4k miles. It also has a very long throttle travel in comfort mode. Guess this is normal?
Okay on the Aston and SLK - owned a V8 Vantage 10 years ago but had many cars since then. Looks like we are bith a couple of petrol heads...!
Anyway congrats on the retrim and try using it more this year.
