Mercedes E63 - 65 plate new gearbox
Discussion
I recently bought a Mercedes E63, 65 plate 14k miles (car was advertised on here).
Long story short I have had the car couple of weeks and driven it myself around 400 miles just under 2 weeks ago I was going on a routine journey when the car broke down. The car started okay, however when I was driving the car it felt sluggish and alittle jerkey it felt like the power of the car was not going through the engine.
Couple of miles into my journey I was waiting at the traffic lights when the car despite being on lost power, I would rev the car and nothing would happen. It was showing a couple of errors on the line of mercedes blind spot inoperative, presafe functions limited and there was another one which I cant remember but it was similiar to what I have listed.
As the car is still in warranty I called out Mercedes breakdown after waiting over 3 and a half hours an RAC technician came out plugged his laptop and the car was showing a couple of P2725 error message which suggested an issue with the pressure control solenodi electrial module. There was nothing he could do to resolve the issue and the car had to be towed to my local Mercedes garage.
The local Mercedes garge checked out the car, initial response I got was the control module might need replacing, I was then told this did not work. They then sent the readings from the gearbox to Germany who advised the gearbox valve body would need replacing. I was told the old gearbox will be sent back to Germany for them to investigate what caused the issue because apparently its not clear.
I am still waiting for the new gearbox to be fiitted. I have made a complaint with Mercedes as I am not happy with the service I have recieved, I am hoping they can compensate by extending the warranty of the car or offer couple of a free services. Can anybody give any advice on how I can push for more?
I have done a google search and havent seen similiar issues on a E63, has anybody else had a similiar issue or is this a one off?
(apologies for the long post)

Replacing a gearbox is no small job and though its been done by Mercedes, I have no doubt it will effect the resale value of the car. Who would want to buy an E63 a powerful car it is with little or no remaining warranty from Mercedes depending on when I decide to sell it?
Speaking to my local garage I was advised if I was paying for this myself it would cost over £5000!!

You are in no worse a position warranty wise if the gearbox had not needed replacing, the 3 year warranty will run out at the same time, the only difference is you have a new gearbox which will still be warranted if you have less than a year on the factory warranty.Speaking to my local garage I was advised if I was paying for this myself it would cost over £5000!!
You have the option of extending the warranty anyway when the factory warranty expires.

Indeed. If the OP doesn’t extend the warranty, any purchaser will have potential costs across the whole car (and let’s face it, it’s not going to be cheap to run a car of that performance potential) but would at least have a gearbox that is newer than the rest of the car. You have the option of extending the warranty anyway when the factory warranty expires.
Sounds like it's being treated about as well as you could expect? You can't expect MB to give you a warranty on the new box that is beyond the original warranty date surely?
From the MB website -
Where a defective part has been replaced as part of the
vehicle’s warranty (i.e. paid for by Mercedes-Benz), the
warranty period for the part replaced will expire when the
vehicle warranty expires.
For what it's worth, my brand new Landcruiser V8D (you know, the most reliable car on the planet that tows Range Rovers out of the desert for fun etc etc) broke down with 52 miles on the clock, it had to be recovered and after diagnosis it required a brand new gearbox.
No issue at all when I sold it 3 years later, I doubt anybody would even know apart from you and the dealer?

Your gear box has been sent to Germany so they can check it for modifications, Basically they are trying to worm out of paying.
Saw your post on the mb forums, Your cars old owner doesn't seem impressed.
But OP what are you trying to achieve? Your cars bust and mb email fix it under warranty.
You don't have a leg to stand on in complaining. A warranty is there to protect you and protect you it has!
As for the devaluation why would it? If your anal never mention it's had one when selling, How can somebody check that?
But in my opinion a new gearbox is covered for a further year + it's a new box compared to an old one.

It took over 6 hours to get recovered, and the warranty for the new gearbox wil end when car warranty finishes next year.
Surely this will effect the value of the car when I come to sell it.
You may get some sort of small compensation for the RAC/Merc breakdown cover taking so long if you're lucky - but that's a push to be honest and probably not worth your time. Relatively, it is not long in the recovery game seeing as you had a patrol out first, then a truck to move.Surely this will effect the value of the car when I come to sell it.
Other than that, sounds like they are doing what they need to do to fix your car? Why do you think you deserve something more than that? The cars value will not be reduced in anyway shape or form by the fact it has had a new gearbox and I don't understand the warranty comment? Warranties run out and then you have to pay for stuff or pay for an extended warranty.
In the unlikely event your gearbox goes again 6 months after the warranty runs out, after previously having a gearbox fitted you will more than likely get it taken care of under goodwill. Mercedes ultimately want to keep their customers happy, especially ones that drive expensive new AMG's, but it's not a licence to take the piss.
The box is sent to Germany for investigation purposes, it sounds like the dealership has had to seek advise from the factory to diagnose the issue in the first instance so the factory will be keen to understand what's happened. Once investigated they can feedback to the dealer network in the form of a technical bulletin/document to speed up the dealers diagnostic process if this fault happens again. It could be this particular gearbox is fitted to multiple models/variants within the range so maybe applicable to more than just E63's.
I had a similar problem on my 2013 E63 on two occasions, both at motorway roundabouts where the car accelerated normally from a standstill/picked up from low speed only to completely cut power. The engine stayed on and after a few very frightening seconds, the power came back but I lost faith in the car after that.
The main dealer said they’d never heard of the problem but there are one or two other members on here who had the same issue with their E63s too. The gearbox is the weak link with the car, as it is with many AMGs from my experience.
