Garmin sat nav 2018 maps

Merry Christmas all.
There appears to be a glitch somewhere in Mercedes' vast online operation which currently allows free download and and update to the current V10 2018 Europe (and UK) map version of their Garmin sat nav. These are not usually available for free unless you are still within the initial 60 days of purchase of the car, or if you wish to pay a significant sum for them.
To access them you'll need Mercedes Download Manager (you can find it here https://shop.mercedes-benz.com/dcp/static/garmin/e... and a PC/laptop which has the right slot for the SD card to be inserted into.
This has worked perfectly for my 2 year old A Class. I had to update the software on the SD card first, then put it back in the car for 'activation' of that version, before putting the SD card back into the PC, at which point it showed that V10 2018 Europe maps were available for download.
I cannot take any credit for this as I picked it up from another Mercedes forum.
I also cannot take any responsibility if anyone tries this and encounters problems. The Mercedes Download Manager is a very poor piece of software and any download/update take a VERY long time, so if you try this you do so at your own risk.
I also have no idea if this applies to COMAND or how this would work, as I only have experience with the Garmin sat nav.
Final tip - the Mercedes Download Manager asks for a username and password when it starts up - anything can be entered into these fields, it will let you progress regardless.
I hope this helps someone gain access to something that Mercedes should be proving free of charge anyway!

I came across this myself & had a go with my 2014 C Class W205 model. Everything updated ok but when I re-registered the card in the car it came up as "update card not allowed contact Mercedes Dealership". Fortunately I had saved the original data to my computer 1st and managed to reload the card with it's original data so disappointingly it never worked for me!
