A few months ago I started seeing fault code P0340 "Camshaft Position Sensor 'A' Circuit (Bank 1 or single sensor)" coming up on our ML320 whilst checking codes with Torque Pro. A bit of research led me to changing the camshaft position sensor which made that code go away and so far not come back.

I checked the car again this evening and now I see another code, P2616 "Camshaft Position Signal Output Circuit High". I googled a bit for that code along with keywords like Mercedes, W164 and OM642 (the engine model) but I'm not finding anything very solid to go on. Worse than that, none of the threads/pages that talk about this give the same text description for that code. Different places talk about the cause being the turbo pressure regulator, the exhaust backpressure sensor, the catalytic converter, exhaust manifolds or the turbo itself.

Only other symptoms are that occasionally on cold start the engine will seem to crank for a relatively long time before firing up and very occasionally on moderate to high throttle inputs, the car seems to jerk fairly violently. Never seen the EML come on, never had limp mode, apart from the above and the codes it seems more or less fine.

Grateful for any input here...

Hello!
I have stumbled upon the same problem. We have got an ML; the car has the exact same symptoms as what you described. I was wondering if you figured something out and managed to fix the car. If you did, would you mind giving me some info and help about what worked for you?

Your reply would help us greatly,! smile
