My Mercedes TMC/SatNav is rubbish!
Discussion
I’ve got a C350e and it’s dire.
The most unintuitive operating system and one that can’t even pick up the M25 been when driving over it!
My old TomTom is better.
Was serviced recently and they couldn’t have been more unhelpful. Just grinned and nodded inanely and offered nothing!
I do a lot of driving and have a good knowledge of UK roads. Otherwise it would have got me into all sorts of cr4p if I’d followed many of its recommendations!

Is it my Merc software or the lovely Highways Agency again?
AIUI it’s nothing to do with the Highways Agency. My old Merc uses the ITIS system and this gets its info mainly from trucks and other vehicles fitted with transponders. I’d say it generally works pretty well but it does go bonkers down in the SE as it’s getting so many inputs.
My missus has a VW and that uses the Traffic Master system, largely using information from those blue units in poles at the side of roads and on motorway bridges. Her system is utterly hopeless.
Quite how much of it is to do with the units’ interpretation of the data, or the data itself, I don’t know.

My 2009 CL63 is hopeless at reporting traffic (TMC), but wasn't originally - just seems to have got worse over the last few years.
Our 2014 GL however is brilliant as it uses the TomTom software instead. Very accurate and tends to be up to the minute too.
My Satnav is not too bad but like you the TMC is terrible (but also was once better, I think?). Please explain the TomTom thing - do never Mercs come with this instead of the earlier Merc software then? Can older one's be flash upgraded? Agree, the SatNav no both cars is absolutely fine. My wife relies on the GL version although I tend to use my only when trying to find a specific address or need an idea of how long the journey will take (it's pretty accurate)Our GL COMAND unit gets traffic updates from TomTom, via a subscription. The initial subscription is for 3 years and is then renewed via Mercedes Me (that was a VERY painful experience involving MB in Germany!)
I think you now only get the TomTom subscription service as a trial for 3 months from new unless you register on Mercedes Me, at which point it switches to 3 years - I could be wrong though!

Cheers, doubt I'll bother to go the TomTom route then - will continue to trust my instincts Our GL COMAND unit gets traffic updates from TomTom, via a subscription. To be fair, a lot of BMW and Jaguar owners complain about exactly the same thing.
Currently owning a Mercedes and a Jaguar, after just getting rid of my 5 series, they’re all much of muchness imo.
And not just traffic, they often seem to recommend routes that leave a bit to be desired too.
