It's an often overlooked gem. I've had one for about 18 months and I am very, very impressed. It's a great 'compromise' car as well: space for the kids and their clobber in the boot, my wife can put it in 'Comfort' mode and potter around town with ease - and then I can select 'Sport' and let it rip. I've surprised a few 911 owners as well!

Can't help wondering about the 5.5l V8 in the C55 AMG, though. And then there's the 470+ bhp V8 in the E55 AMG (drove one on the track at a Mercedes day last year - stunning car).

Enjoy!

Another owner here

Had it since Nov 04 - never yet managed 230 miles on a tank!

Overall, very happy, lovely comfy car to schmooze about with the kids in the back, but go loopy when alone , and is an excellent partner for my 7

One minor annoyance is turning the ESP off isn't 100% "OFF" which can sometimes curtail opposite-lockery

Hello, I'm interested in buying one of these. What are the servicing costs like for 2001/2 models?

Another C32 (2003) owner here. Had it since December 2005. Proper Q-car.

Love it, so far so good. I'm planning to call the dealer tomorrow to book a service so I'll let you know likely costs. IIRC the small service is £250-ish (that's what dealer said when I bought it!!)

What are the performance figures like on these cars?

Previous generations had much larger engines right? C36 and C43 v8 ??

The C32 is supercharged so don't worry about the loss of displacement...

I remember reading the first Autocar comparison test of this vs. the M3. The M3 hit 60 in 4.8s, and the C32 in 4.6s.

I'm not sure if this might have been a 'tweaked' press car, but I think we can say the performance is right up there with the best, nevertheless.

Since then I've always rather wanted one. How are the running costs and so on then?

Running costs is a good question !

The thing is they hold their used value very well.....I have a £14-16K budget !

would love a Estate version!!

hello all another owner here

i've had my 2002 c32 since feb 2005 and i love it, great performance ,comfortable, well equiped and i like the looks. on the down side i've had a few reliability problems and its cost me about 5 or 6 grand in petrol over the last 14 months, so not great on petrol consumption

Had my Dec01 car for three years now! Love it. Problem with a car this good is replacing it! I've ordered a RS4 but that doesn't have some of the toys my 5 year old AMG does

My boss has had mercs all his life. His C32 has been so unreliable its untrue, the dealership has treated him like dirt. Also, my own impression of the car is its too fast, the chassis cannot cope with the power. A spirited drive along a counrty lane (I was driving his new BMW E46 330) highlighted to me AMG are still miles away on ultimate feel. If they made a light weight focused version (play on the F1 link) I would contemplate getting rid of my CSL as I love the AMG engines.

Anyone had a better price than £275 inc VAT and Labour for an A service on a C32?

Just spotted this thread. Im thinking of replacing my Volvo with one as a daily hack covering around 25k miles a year.

Whats the average fuel consumption on these and is it super unleaded only?

I get around 22-24 mpg average from my 340bhp tweaked T5 on Optimax.

Servicing costs look similar.

depending on how you drive average can be anything from 20-22 mpg down to about 15-16 when pushing hard

i'm currently averaging about 20-21 with a fair bit of town driving and the odd thrash for fun, mostly on regular unleaded but once in a while i will fill up with super unleaded when i'm feeling a bit flush

I'm thinking independent rather than main agent....
