Hi all,

I really love my C63, I love the sound and the performance is great! But it no longer shocks me. I've only had it 3 months but already I'm looking for even more out of it. I'm not sure if I have problems or if this is normal? But if there is anyone else that felt the same and had their C63 remapped for better performance, then I'd like to know who they recommend and what it did for them? What it felt like afterwards?

MoreBHP can take it from 457 to 510! £699. Seems a good deal. They did my Audi for me and it was miles better after it.

I feel this engine has so much more to offer and could be taken to insane level smile

all the best,
Andrew

Strange, it can't put down the power it has, so why would you want more?. I think you should buy yourself a Caterham or similar, and start doing track days. This will give you the thrills that just going faster in a straight line simply can't. Alternatively, get a GT-R, and tune the tits off it,now that's really fast.

I would reckon do a carbon clean and get a remap of the engine and gearbox, that should spruce her up a bit!

Eurocharged seems to be the de facto choice on the MB forums, with lots of recommendations from those who've had theirs done.

You may have a point. I just like things to be extreme and I feel that this car can deliver more between 2k and 5k revs. I can get the power down fine in the dry but agree that damp or wet and forget it. This is even with tyres that are on the legal tread limit (changing tomorrow to Conti 6 supersport) so should see that traction improved immensely.

The funny thing is, I want my craziness but I also want a luxury car. Caterhams and GT-Rs don't interest me that much... ok maybe for a one off bit of fun, but I want my daily car to be a bit lunacy. smile

In case you want to combine the ECU revision with a trip to the Ring I could provide you with the name of a German company run by a guy who's very popular in the German AMG community. Located close to Stuttgart.

Has a pretty long waiting list though.

Make it louder. Louder feels faster.

Otherwise, tuning naturally aspirated cars tends to be either placebo or expensive for real gains.

Option C: Sell yours and find another with a supercharger; there's a few around!

Why stop at Caterham? OP ditch the whole car nonsense which may be perfectly practical and essential for your needs and get a superbike instead. Strap your luggage/loved ones/pets to your back or something, or send them on the train. Job jobbed!!!1

Eurocharged are claiming ~90bhp with a remap.

http://eurocharged.uk.com/products/mercedes-perfor...

I had them do my S600 and I'm very happy with the results. Best £££-Performance ratio in most cases.

There's then exhaust manifolds/headers and other exhaust opinions, but those are a little more complicated and expensive for smaller gains. 50-75HP for £2k+.

What sort of cars have you owned previously? You saying that you want 'more' from 2K-5K makes me wonder if you've used to FI cars? The 63s make loads of torque, but its linear and a different driving experience compared to some turbo charged engines that can spam huge amounts of torque at low RPMs.

Does your car have the performance pack LSD?

This seems to be the case. In looking at upgrades for my ST I can get a Bluefin remap for £350 which will give something like 35BHP increase, or a Mountune pack for £1500 which gives me another 25.

I've no idea why I'd bother with the latter.

Warranty? Only reason someone with a ford would go the mountune route imo.

Claimed*

I very much doubt Bluefin would get 35bhp.
In the TFSI tuning world their figures are hugely over-exaggerated with Dyno proof to back it up.

Would dodge Bluefin like the plague.

I'd be surprised if there were any truly noticeable gains from a remap on the C63. I'd recommend just getting the car breathing better first. Headers/cams with an engine and gearbox remap and an X-Pipe exhaust will make a hell of a difference.

I had a custom remap on my 55 following the X-pipe and secondary cat delete and it only gained around 15bhp. A good 45lb/ft increase in torque though at the hubs, so maybe a C63 would be somewhat similar.

I'm rather surprised that a few folk have said that gains on this specific n/a will be poor.

It's pretty well documented that the AMG 63 engines respond very well to ECU tuning

Carbon clean on the inlet will free up more power than any remap for 90% of cars out there.
On RS4s this can cause cars to be running very low power... 340-350bhp I have seen multiple times. Goes back to around 405-410 after a carbon clean with no other modifications. Combine the carbon build up removal with a remap to reap the rewards, renew air filters and engage in a pro-active service routing using quality oil. (often Mercedez own brand oil is not the best....).

The best mod to do on a C63 is put a limited slip diff on it if it doesn't have one fitted it makes it a much more fun car.

Not sure the OP wants more fun, or just more grunt. That's why I suggested a second fun car, so thrills and a bigger buzz than tearing round the roads. If the OP just wants more grunt in the car he has, then his original suggestion sounds like being worth a go.Big gains out of already powerful NA engines isn't easy, but a good remap and some minor tweaks can change the feel of an engine, which for some, is enough. God luck with your quest OP.

Thanks all for the replies. I'm going to check out Eurocharged, but I might leave it for a few months now. I've found that if I don't touch the car for a few days then the shock factor returns smile I guess we just get used to these things too quickly?

Also, the car has only done 5,500 miles so not likely to be suffering from coking I wouldn't have thought.

Interested in the X-pipe conversion. what difference does it actually make?

as for sound, I love the sound of the car, but I'd love to give it a bit of SLR sound smile

I'm also curious on the German tuning company, DamnKraut. What's their name?

The X Pipe gives it a deeper note when cruising around & then gets very vocal when pressing on it certainly brings a smile to your face on startup.
