Mercedes GLA Servicing
Discussion
My wife has one on lease and the service intervals are every 15k or every year.
It is 1 year old next month so we need to get it serviced although its only done 7k.
I have looked at the service A details on the Mercedes website and its essentially just an oil and filter change.
They want £265 for this!
As its a lease I don't think I have a choice but this seems expensive.
Anyone got any feedback on gla servicing?

Much as it irks me, you probably should get it onto a ServiceCare plan - if you do it before the car is 12mths old the monthly is £24 vs £32 if over 12mths. Next year's service - B plus brake fluid change - will be quite a bit dearer for not a lot more work.
On ServiceCare you can just forget about the cost, and that the dealer will try and charge £50 for a courtesy car if you PAYG.
Alternatively you could try and negotiate service pricing with the dealer. Some people on the MB forums report getting very low servicing prices, even from London or remote Scottish dealers, but others get nowhere. Supplying your own oil seems common with MB dealers and often the dealer charge for oil alone will be over £100.

The car is leased and I just spoke to Alphabet. It does have to be main dealer as it does state in the T's and C's so that is fair enough. They did however state that when they collect it in twelve months it will only need its 2nd service if its overdue on collection. On ServiceCare you can just forget about the cost, and that the dealer will try and charge £50 for a courtesy car if you PAYG.

Basically get them to collect the car a few days before hand and as the service wont be due I wont need to do it so this will be the only one needed.
£265 is a joke though so I will go down and try to negotiate.
Thanks Sheepshanks
Fair enough on the second service. I'd take it in as late as possible for the first so it won't show as due at 2yrs.
Dealers offer 7yrs+ "value" servicing - they say it's reduced scope but in practice the checks etc are all the same. Obviously doesn't list GLA yet but it's £119 on an A Class. There's no reason why they couldn't do yours for that price - if they wanted to.

Just to complete this thread I have just booked the car in.
Got them down from £265 to £153 by saying I would supply the oil which is £35 from the Merc dealer. That means they were billing it at £112!!
Total cost is £188 now which is more like it so well worth one phone call to save £77!

I never cease to be amazed that dealers will throw profit away like this - why on earth don't they charge a more reasonable price (which they will do on older cars) and keep some of the profit? Bonkers!I'd never heard of supplying your own oil until I got a Merc - and the dealer suggested it to me. Same as you, but 11yrs ago - knocked £100 off the first service.
I did that when I had a Porsche and didn't feel at all guilty over it (awkward yes, guilty no) because I was walking in and plonking 2 bottles of Mobil 1 on the desk which is what they would have put in the car.
The difference was I purchased the oil at Costco, I'd be royally pissed off if the dealership were charging one price for oil as part of the service, but letting me buy the same oil for for less through the parts desk for me then to hand it to them for them to use for the service, unless I misunderstood you?

No you are right. I am dropping the car and and delivering the oil to the service dept from their own parts department!!The difference was I purchased the oil at Costco, I'd be royally pissed off if the dealership were charging one price for oil as part of the service, but letting me buy the same oil for for less through the parts desk for me then to hand it to them for them to use for the service, unless I misunderstood you?
Hi, I'm in a similar position but with a c250d.
What's the deal with servicing intervals? Can I take the car in 1 month late for its first service so I don't need to pay for 2 services over a 2 year lease?
The computer states service due in 2 weeks, however the car was delivered to me mid-December.
Thanks

The bottom line is if the car is due a service on collection you will be charged, if its not (even if it says due in 1 week) you wont. If it comes to it at the end of the lease if it is going to need a service just ask them to pick it up a week early.
