help. strange power loss on c280
Discussion
Chaps
I have a late 98 C280 v6 and it has started a rather strange habit, if I try and hussle it along and depress the Accelerator to the floor, it initially starts to pull then more often than not the power will drop, revs reduce to around 3000rpm and if you continue to try and accelerate it just doesn’t play ball.
Almost feels like it has gone into some sort of safe mode ? All you can then do to fix the situation is to pull over ( when you come to a stop it trys to hop forward ) and turn the engine off, restart it and then you can pull away again with full power.
The only way I can stop the happening is to only use two thirds accelerator at most.
Dose anyone have any ideas ?
Cheers

Monaco, sounds like Mass Airflow Sensor to me.
Mine did this back at 98K.....
Be prepared for a shock mate.....if it is, you're looking at nigh on £300 for the bloody part. It sits in the airbox tube between the air filter and the inlet manifold on the LHS of the engine as you look in.
Get it to a dealer / indie with the necessary Star Diags kit to read the ECU.
