Any Maybach 57 and 62 fans / owners out there ?
Discussion
I know these cars were a sales disaster and are not exactly attractive looking , but is it just me or are these cars possibly a good buy s /hand ? not in the market unfortunately !
despite the lack of sales success , used 62's in particular seem to go for decent money - similar values to rr Phantoms ( maybe its the scarcity of cars )
its a bit hard to justify buying a used 57 compared to say a top line s class but the 62 model has fantastic interior and presence. Remember seeing Latoya Jackson getting out of a lovely 62 zeppelin outside jack Barclays ( she was going into JB'S)
not sure whether MB launching a Maybach range is good or bad for 57/62 models but at least it means you are not buying into a defunct brand name.

Whilst they are loosely based on the S Class, there is not a huge amount carried over.
The running costs are unbelievable - with a lot of bespoke parts that you can only order from MB. There is a Maybach forum on MBWorld iirc and you can see some of the stories there.
Not for the weak walleted.

I've ridden in a 62 a couple of times. I always thought the 57 would be OK, especially if specified in tasteful colours; certainly, it would be a lot more bearable than a Phantom! Both are pretty grim, though.
Never made it into a Maybach but did find it curious spotting interior components common to my W220 S600LI did see a stretched 62 at MB World and may have a photo somewhere. Would love the Xantech (sp?) two door conversion - even more imposing than a C140

Which interior components are common? I agree, there is a visual similarity between the wooden trim strip across the dash and down the doors however in the w220 it is a single thickness strip of varnished plywood; in the Maybach it is a multilayer wood/aluminium sandwich which provided improved strength.I did see a stretched 62 at MB World and may have a photo somewhere. I went through the Stuttgart "centre of excellence" where they showed us some of the Maybach construction. Believe me, there are substantial differences.

Why grim?So many of the pieces are just restyled W220 pieces.
Parts in common with W220 s class include but are not limited to :
Steering wheel (different covering but same frame and electronics)
Stalk switches
Headlight switch
Comand sat Nav radio unit and associated electronics(fascia is different)
Gear selector
Electric seat switches
EIS
Most of the control units (almost 100 of them)
Climate control system
Rear screen electric blind
Sun visors
Interior lights
Engine
Gearbox
Suspension - half W220/half W140
Once you strip back the aesthetics it is partially a 2003- S600 bi turbo, but the bi-turbo is more modern in most areas.
If you need to make a statement, a Maybach is one way to do it. If you want to drive a VFM super power luxo barge then a £7,000 S600 bi turbo is the way to do it. A remap will see an easy 600bhp and the torque is unreal.

The two tone colours were terrible and the alloys wheels fitted were terrible when car came out first but a lot of cars have had the bigger and nicer looking 's' model wheels fitted now .In a ' one tone ' colour and with s wheels , a 62 looks well .
When talking about what interior bits are shared with s class , remember with a 62 you are likely to spend most of ur time in the back so wont notice this.
Car dealer Austin owen in Essex has a few cars for sale and offers chauffeur service in a 62.
Much harder to justify a 57 as obviously smaller and less presence and you are more likely to be driving it yourself.

what do people think of the new s600 maybach ? Been getting very good reviews and reviewers say its actually good value at its approx. £150K price ! only reason why it might not sell as well as Phantom is that its basically a posher s class. it was lauded for its ride quality , spec. and rear cabin space.

It's a mess, isn't it? It's basically a w222 S-Class—a car which was already lost—with knobs on. A bit of a stretch in the middle. Some aluminium trim clagged around the windows. Extra-revolting upholstery. Some more utterly pointless gadgets. This end of the market seems to draw inspiration from cartoon wehouses. It's bizarre.r129sl said:

Agreed - vile things. The W221 S-Class is stunning whereas the new one is awful. I see a lot of both here and *pah*The W220 has not aged well - it always looked "cheap" to me and having owned one and a few of the W140's (including the S600L in each) the W140 was far far better built and without needless and pointless gadgets.
My preferred garage:
W221 S65L
W140 S600L with individual rear seats
C140 CL500
and (if I could find them)
W140 S73
C140 CL73
I have driven a CL70 and it went like stink.
For giggles, an W220 S65L rebadged as an S320 and stick some private hire stickers on it. Not sure on how to hide the gargantuan brakes and discs though!
