E350 estate winter tyres

I have just purchase an E350 estate on a 64 plate. Nice car, but I am thinking of putting winter tyres on it for the next few months. What are people's experiences of this and any recommended tyre options.

I am not sure my wife is going to wrap it for Christmas though....

I am on winter tyres/wheels bought from Mercedes when car was new (63 plate)it is 3500 CLS I was on 34000 when changed rims for 2nd time in December. I have 3/4 tread on winter tyres and between 50 to 25 % on "summer" tyres. So based on cost it seems to be cost negative tyre wise. I work and live in Aberdeen but my home and family are in Yorkshire and drive up and down most weeks tyres seem to work giving better grip on very cold mornings although last few years have been quite mild. I had 2 years on E Class 3500 with winter tyres which again happy with and had improvement by 2 mpg proberbly because winter tyres are narrower. I would recommend winter tyres if doing more than 10000 miles py as losing no claims bonus is expensive.

I have vredstein's on my ML. Would strongly recommend them. Worth a look for your E class.

My 500 sits on conti winter contacts. They seem acceptable.

You should be able to pick up a set of winter wheels and tyres off eBay for around £400 with not much wear on them. Mine have Pirelli scotozero 245 40 18's on them.
Make sure the wheels have a 212 part number on them.

I had Dunlop winter tyres on my E350 w212 and they were excellent.

Additional grip in the rain particularly surprised me.
