Hi, trying to establish

I've used this http://www.neoriginal.ru/cat/mb

But it only gave quite basic details;

VEHICLE TYPE: Car
MODEL NAME: 560 SEC JAPAN
ENGINE: 117968 22 026913
TRANSMISSION: 722323 02 906771
BODY: 00039
ORDER NUMBER: 0753786821
LIGHTS: BOSCH
WIPER: 000000
INTERIOR COLOR: 275
PAINTS: 929

251 RADIO MB - EXQUISIT - USA
260 TYPE DESTINATION ON TRUNK LID - ELIMINATION
341 ADDITIONAL BLINKER LAMPS
405 MULTI-CONTOUR SEAT, FRONT RIGHT
430 HEADREST IN THE REAR, LEFT AND RIGHT
461 INSTRUMENT WITH MILES IND. AND ENGLISH LEGEND
524 PAINTWORK - PRESERVATION
613 LAMP UNIT - ASSYMETRICAL, LH TRAFFIC
682 FIRE EXTINGUISHER
873 SEAT HEATER FOR LEFT AND RIGHT FRONT SEATS

These may be all of the details available I guess, does anyone know if I can find out any more information from elsewhere? Could a Mercedes main dealer help?

Thanks in advance

ps - I don't know why it is showing as a 560 SEC 'Japan' above, it shows its date of first registration and date of first registration in the UK as 21.05.1987.

Way too old for any meaningful info now, I'm afraid. Even an MB dealer would only be able to retrieve limited info.

Ok, that's worth knowing, thanks.

Do you have access to the car?

If so, worth checking out areas you don't usually access in case the build sheet is still there.

Can't remember if it was with respect to Mercedes, but have heard places such as under rear seat squabs and/or in spare wheel wells mentioned in the past.

What's the Japan reference all about?

Apparently some RHD cars are recorded as Japan models, but still trying to trace the early history. Don't know who the supplying dealer was....

My W124 is also marked as 'JAPAN'. Was hoping you could set me straight! My local dealer said it is nonetheless a UK car supplied to a UK dealer.

The thing is the option codes move on over time so the descriptions can change.

Any car over 10 years old (roughly) should have the VIN decode taken with a degree of caution as to its accuracy

Do you have the Datacard?

If you do, then you can get a better code translation here, though you'll need to go through it yourself:
http://www.mbspares.com.au/Information/DataCards.a...

You might also get better information by registering it in the My Mercedes section of the MB UK website.
