My wife has a 230k which is very noisy. Merc have checked out what soulds like the diff rumble, but said that the tyres (AVONs) are the problem? Anyone had the same problem of tyre noise, and any idea which tyres give the least road noise. Or are merc pulling my chain!

My SLK320 has Pirelli P6000s - they don't sound particularly noisy although on some roads at some speeds there is a slight whine if I listen hard enough.

Nothing like as noisy as my Prelude was though!

Does it have the AMG wheels or standard? I had a 320 with AMGs and Continentals on for a while and it was terrible for roadnoise. Also years ago I had a CRX with Avons that howeled at over 60 mph!

I reasised that SLKs have little to no insulation behind the seats (wheel arch area or in the boot and the boot acts like a "drum".

I was quoted around £200 to dynamat the whole lot but I got rid of the car before doing so.
