Warranty on used C63
Discussion
Hi All,
I have just purchased an 08 C63 that I think might be a good idea to get a warranty on.
I have just called Merc and they use Mondial and are quoting £2100 for the tier 1 warranty with no excess. This seems like a CRAZY amount of money, I thought Porsche were bad at £1400 for the year but this takes the piss!!
Anyone have any views on if a warranty is worthwhile, why its so damn expensive and if there is a non Merc warranty worth the paper it's printed on?
Thanks!

Prices have gone up that's for sure. Its the same warranty provider as BMW and they used to charge £83 a month for fully comp, zero excess on my 2007 E61 M5. Folks buying new warranties from BMW and now looking at circa £200 a month for the same thing.
Its still £83 or there abouts if you bough the Merc or BMW monthly warranties before the April changes though. Always pay monthly, that way you wont get hit with annual price hikes.

On another note the car I am buying is an 08 car with 44k on the clock. Merc have seen it for 2 of the services and apparently it went for its last service at a specialist (using authorised parts). They have told me that Mercs no longer have a book to stamp so the service is logged in the on board computer but other than that and the paperwork from the specialist there isnt anything to prove its been serviced.
Does this sound like BS??

Ah ok, thanks!
Would a specialist service bother you?

Your only physical, paper proof is your digital printouts from the dealer services (request them if you are missing these, or register online at Merc UK website to see it onscreen). Gone are the days where dealer stamps were king.
If its a Merc approved specialist that has only used OEM parts then it'd only bother me on a car less than 3 years old. If its a good, slightly older car and the history is approved by Merc then you should have no issues. You should still be able to get a warranty from Merc so long as it passes a Merc inspection. Same deal as BMW.
In a nutshell, buyer beware!

Better this way, no more fake rubber stampers nonsense. I remember seeing them for sale on ebay once.Zanderman said:

Just been offered a warranty buy the dealer by a company called Mapfre, never heard of them and cant find that much info on the web. Its £750 for the year so a lot cheaper but pointless if they are crap!
I can get the Tier 1 Merc warranty with an excess of £250 for £1500 for the year. Do you guys thing its worth doing? Or should I just put aside a bit of cash in case something happens??
