Merc's used to have rock solid reliability. But not so any more. We're looking for one as new as possible (E-Class), but before they began to become unreliable. In which models/year do the problems begin?

Have a look at www.reliabilityindex.co.uk at models/years.

Remeber they take into account main dealer charges for repairs so thats 1 reason merc scores poorly.

That site makes no sense to me.

In the "worst performers" in the manufacturers section they list Jaguar and Subaru. Yet both these manufacturers have got the opposite result in the JD Power surveys. In fact, Subaru keep winning awards for reliability.

How can this research be the complete opposite of JD Power?

Mrs WR. bought a new C180 Coupe about six months/5000 miles ago, superb quality car imo, everything feels solid and well built, no problems at all, except a non cancelling indicator switch, which was replaced under warranty.
