Hi Folks,am invading from the TVR forum.
Mother jamster has got and SLK230 and has some roof opening and closing problems.

On trying to open the boot does its thing then the roof attempts to go back but does nothing when the little button is pressed. It's almost like it cant find a gear! Does exactly the same in reverse or when attempting to put the roof up, Boot does its thing and opens but the roof doesnt come out???? It only does this 1 in every 5 times i'd say???

Would the car being on a slanted driveway have anything to do with it?

Any suggestions welcom.

Cheers,

Jamster.

There's nothing in the SLK Owner's Handbook to suggest that sloping ground should present any particular problem - and these roofs are normally very reliable indeed.

Manual raising/lowering is extremely difficult and should be conidered an emergency operation only. You need to see a dealer quickly before it gets any worse.

is the boot clossed properly and the tray thing in teh boot pulled over - I think there is some dort of sensor so if its not properly closed it may not work correctly

You will note that the boot would not open if the micro sensors were not made. I believe your problem is of a more technical nature that should be addressed by a stealership unfortuneatly

I have experienced this fault with my SLK, it's currently in the dealership to try and solve the problem. They say, that they can't find a specific fault!!! Anyone else had this problem?

Mine had this problem. It was rectified by renewing two limit switches in the roof which necessitated removing the headlining. Part Nos MA170 820 07 10 & MA170 820 09 10. Parts £36 Labour £273 Good Luck!
