Took my '60' plate 212 E class in for a service today, and had a new set of Bosch injectors and ECU courtesy of Mr Mercedes. Seems like the injector problem still persists although I have covered 82k miles with no issues.

Told by the dealer that Mercedes are reverting back to the old Bosch injectors, so if you fancy a free set of injectors might be worthwhile contacting your dealer.

Petrol or Diesel? My W212 is due it's first service this month so may mention it to them, mine has the E200 CGI engine so I'm not sure if these were affected at all anyway?

On another note, how is the W212 wearing the 82k miles internally and mechanically compared to the W211?

Sorry it's diesel.

As for the car itself, I have had no issues with it so far. The interior is wearing well although the plastics are a bit harder and mark up more than the 211. Otherwise the build quality is very good, no squeaks or rattles, unlike the new C class apparently. A shame they didn't put a bit of carpet on the side of the transmission tunnel.

Mechanically it is very similar with the 5g box, but it does feel and drive like a newer car and is more economical by probably 5mpg. Mind you my 211 had done 312k miles so it should feel a bit tighter.

My only bug bear really is the single sun visor. I would happily have paid an extra few pounds for the second visor. Seems like petty cost cutting but obviously adds up as far as Mercedes are concerned. Mind you these savings must be dwarfed by the injector debacle.

Would add its the best car I have owned for everyday use.

Haha, that's not in reference to a thread I started earlier this year about my short lived experience with a new C220 cdi, is it?!

With regards to the trim on the side of the transmission tunnel, I noticed the same but also wished they'd covered the front seatbelt tower/cover, it was a light grey fabric on my old W211 but black plastic on the W212 and the setbelt buckle has scratched it quite easily.

Mine does have the 7g box which I have no complaints about, coupled with the petrol engine it's lovely and smooth, if a little flat below 2k RPM, but that's to be expected with a turbocharged petrol engine.

The lack of double sun visor doesn't bother me, we don't get sun in the West of Scotland...

No, didn't realise you'd had a C Class.

There is a guy on the MBUK club forum who has started a blog complaining about rattles in his C class. He is trying to reject the car although he has had it for several months but not having much joy with Mercedes who say it is fit for purpose.

He is not doing his case much good by going public and threatening to take Mercedes to court.

Funnily enough they have a new Class in the dealers today with the complete dash stripped out trying to locate and rectify rattles. They admit there is an issue with them, but probably not enough to reject the car.

I had a facelift 11 plate C220 cdi 'Sport' for 6 hateful months.

Crashy ride, creaky seats, buzzy/rattly dashboard, squeaks & creaks from the instrument cluster.

I didn't bother taking it back to complain, I just got shot of it - didn't lose any money on it over 6k miles though smile

I wonder if the car you saw was GU11 OOJ?!

Didn't note the reg no but it was "owned" by a guy who works for Orwell Trucks, a Mercedes Truck dealership in Suffolk.

It had taken them 5 hrs to strip out the whole dashboard and they were still not sure where the rattles were coming from. They think it is somewhere within the heater unit. Thay had asked the owner to come in and go for a drive minus the dash, but had warned him not to be too alarmed when he saw what they had done to it.

Luckily for him it was all being done under warranty.

This is my 3rd E class and none of them have had any rattles whatsoever.

OP. Your old W211. Did it suffer from injector leakage?
"Black death" I think it's called as the sulphur builds up on top of the engine and destroys the wiring.
The seals go.

It's funny you mention the sun visor as I noticed that within 5 mins of driving a W212 E250 loaner.
You know they've also got rid of the "rest" function on the heater.

(No. I'm not a fan of the W212)
