1990 300e Blower / Heater problem

Hi all,

I'm not great with electrics in cars and wanted to run something past you for previous experience.

Our 1990 300e has developed a fault where the entire A/C / heater / blow isn't working (It didnt when I bought it).

I popped the bonnet to check the fuses and low and behold, the blower fuse is gone....easy fix I thought. Popped a new fuse in and that went as well.

So guys... past the easy stuff of replacing a fuse! Where to I start looking? What could it be?

Any ideas?

Heater fans are a classic W124 failure item. The plain sleeve bearings tend to wear, as do the commutator & brushes, and the fan eventually stops working. Sounds like yours has stuck or gone short-circuit

You need to remove all the plastics at the foot of the windscreen and remove the jump wiper to get at the fan. There's a plastic covering over the fan attached with awkward spring clips, some of which are hidden from view. The fan assembly has a power plug and is retained by a rubber strap under a plastic clip. Don't break the plastic clip! It's part of the fan housing

Whip the fan out, clean it and see if it's viable. If it's not, start hunting for a replacement. There are two types (single & dual) and lots of variations

If the brushes are worn they can be replaced with pretty much any carbon brush filed to shape. They are fiddly to fit. If you're of the Scalextric / Hornby generation you'll know the drill. If you're an xboxer you won't have a clue what I'm on about
