Anyone know of tuning mods for the 2.3-8 190E? Mosselmann?

There are modifications available for pretty much every aspect of the car . If my memory serves correct , the 190 was the most modified car of the 80's .

I'd always vote for leaving things as standard though , especially if your car has survived this long without being altered .

That having been said , brake and tyre technology has moved on so much since the car was made , so upgrades here are sensible .

Was just thinking the M102 engine would be a lovely platform for some forced induction or a supercharger...

What are the most common suspension and brake upgrades for a non-sportline 190E? I dont want to lose the comfy ride

How much do want to spend and what's the overall condition of the car?

If you start adding a turbo/supercharger to a 20 year old car , it will cause big issues , unless you build a 'new' car around it at huge cost .

Much better to refresh the suspension bushes , change the shock absorbers (and steering damper) , put fresh brakes on and leave it at that .

Should have bought the C36 if you wanted more power ; it would be far cheaper!!

Or sticking with 190's, buying a 2.6 Sportline and then maybe consider dropping in a 3.0. Have a look at:

The car is pristine, not a spot of rust. 80k miles. Looks like a 3 year old car, driven by a doctor from new ( 1 owner) in a place of norway with no salt or sandy roads, garaged from new.

Kind of why I want to keep it.

Re: the C36. Lovely cars but a different proposition alltogether.

Go with original mercedes W201 parts or are there superior alternatives?

Sounds nice.

O.k. so, consider a head job, cam & exhaust etc. and maybe EFi instead of the Bosch Jetronic - see sites for more info. For the suspension I'd renew all the bushes, engine & g/box mounts and rear subframe bushes, check the front b/joints too - personally I'd just change those anyway, check steering linkages including idler arm bushes while your at it along with the steering damper. Look at Bilstein B4 shocks & suitable springs with a 20mm drop - see www.Bilstein.de for part numbers. Consider getting Sportline front lower arms. Check out the German club sites & eBay.de You could also fit 16V f&r anti roll bars along with a 16V steering box (or get the current box adjusted). 15X7J fifteen hole alloys with 205/55 tyres would make a difference too.

Nice, very thorough write up. Any idea about the power gains?
Ideally I`d like for a mercedes specialist to just fit everything in one go, anyone you would recommend? Makes a good excuse for 2 day european trip, after all these cars were made for 3 digits all day long! smile

any excuse...

Power gains? At at guess 150-160bhp, with very good torque should be attainable but it's all money. As for a specialist, there is many but most things on 190's are straight forward. There's good guys in Sweden, Germany & the U.K. - again see club web sites & all very helpful.

Nice man, cheers! Should perhaps be lowered a tad, yep.
A bit worried about losing the waft if I go gung ho in the sportline bin though...

You're welcome. As for Sportline set up, it's really a very nice set up & a good compromise imo. But fitting just Sportline spec springs & shocks should not disappoint provided the rest of the suspension is generally up to scratch. 190's have lovely chassis, note the muti linked rear design and the F&R shock & spring locations. So, having the suspension in good or better order than standard will be rewarded.

P.s. Renew the front shock top mountings when doing the shocks.
