cls 320 thoughts please

can anyone tell me if the dvd player in a cls can be wired to play while moving.
iknow they are not to be used whilst driving but i had one b4 so kids can watch on a journey.
im very disciplined and can switch off to it an just listen to whats goin on rather than look at screen??????
also opinions as ive just committed to buy one. its the diesel with 50k on the clock and history.
what can i expect on mpg round town ???
what are they like to live with ???
do they hold much value over say 4 year period or are they dropping rapidly ???

I have a 50,000 mile, 2005 W220 S320 CDi (S6) and fuel economy around town seems to be about 30mpg...but I am not really a jaunty driver. Fast runs on motorways return 37 to 38mpg and steady motorway driving just over 40mpg. My best economy of 44.4mpg was achieved late at night on empty "A" roads, driving at 55 to 60mph.

When you want it to be, the CLS is, for a large and heavy motor car, surprisingly quick, agile and fast...think almost Golf GTI type "A" road performance....but deceptively quiet and very comfy too!

Personally I would not bother trying to molest the DVD player (mine is set a similar way to how you describe the CLS). The picture is OK and sound superb. I would first think about buying an additional and separate DVD/games system and install it in the rear of the car. Alternatively, have a chat with an expert car audio installer, familiar with the sometimes quirky MB way of doing things. He may be able to install "slave" displays to work in the rear?

Good luck...and I forgot to mention the CLS does to my eyes, look beautiful.

I've got a Sept 06 CLS 320 CDI which I have had since new. I have never reset the second odometer and it has averaged 31.8mpg, albeit the average speed for its life is 28mph (depressing!). On a run, with steady motorway driving it will get into the low 40s, but anything over 75-80mph hits economy, and round town it is in the high 20s.

I have never kept a car anything like this long, but still love it to bits - it is quick, particularly good for overtaking with the bags of torque, very smooth and comfortable and apart from a broken front spring and a crankshaft sensor (covered by warranty) just asks for services, tyres, brakes and diesel.

I believe the DVD player in Command can be reprogrammed to allow it to operate when moving, but have not altered it - the kids have small portable DVDs in the back on long runs.
