CD Changer installed but cannot use

A friend's 2002 Merc C220 CDi.

What appears to be an in-dash 6-cd changer is present. But I cannot find it through the radio/cd system. It only plays a CD when inserted into the slot in the radio.

Is it possible this is not a cd-changer or a common fault ?

He had managed to convince himself that it was storage for CDs.

if its the same as in my 01 clk you have to push the cd button twice

also if its the one in the glove box the storage unit is beside the cd changer

How do you load the cd's into what you suspect is the cd changer ? If its a cd changer then you will need to load the cd's into a 6 disc magazine that then gets loaded into the changer in the glovebox. I suspect you just have a cd storage holder that as mentioned in another post usually sits to the left of the cd changer on the top shelf inside the glovebox. When a cd is installed the little tab turns red on the front when the door is shut to indicate a cd is stored in the compartment.
