Following on from previous thread. Is a 250diesel abysmally slow, and is it worth waiting for a turbo diesel to turn up?
Don't know much about these, so would appreciate any advice to pass onto Silverback senior.
Thanks.

Best left to taxi drivers and those that sit on the motorway all day, very much an old school diesel, they progressed to the 250 turbodiesel(might be worth looking at) then to the 220/270CDi's

now I can vouch for the C270cdi, i was in 175bhp Saab 9-3 2.0t Convertible Auto and i got well and truely pi55ed on by one pulling away from the lights!

Rented a 240 Cdi estate in Austria, very quick but I would'nt buy one for that stupid handbrake system alone.

I had a C220d, and, yes it was v-e-r-y s--l--o--w! To make things worse, it was an auto! Still, I did about 80k in it up & down the motorway and into and out of London daily and I loved it. Relaxing and comfortable just very, very slow.

Unlike my AMG

Top gear did a test on the 220d, which as mentioned above seems to be in mutch the same boat as the 250d

www.topgear.com/servlet/tg?DEST=/content/jsp/individualRoadTest.jsp&EVENT=1110&MAKE=Mercedes-Benz:C7&MODEL=C-Class:K1&roadTestNumber=19.html

"The 2,155cc four-cylinder engine offers only 97bhp and 111lbft at 3,600rpm."

"In fact at times when you are pulling out of junctions and motorway slip roads, it is dangerously slow"

My Father in law has a 220cdi (122bhp ?) estate bought 2nd hand with 47k on, he loves it particularly as it gives him 40mpg (he does around 18-20000 miles a year mostly motorway at 80-85). I drove it at around the 70k mark, comfy, feels stable and the handlings secure. The peformance initially feels like a much larger engined car, takes off briskly pushes along well to midrange then there doesn't seem to be much point pushing it further. He'll keep till 150k-200k.

Paint is much better than on my newer merc

Later 220cdi had more power, nice cars
