I don't think it helps that all of the press photos are of a white one.
I know it's trendy at the moment, but it's an ugly colour on the wrong car.
This is about the only decent photo I could find of a non white one, and it looks ok. If the normal 172 is anything to go by, it'll look better in the flesh anyway I should think.

Interesting point about the cost too. It's about £55K I think. Does that really sound a lot for a brand new high quality German sports car with a V8 engine that does 0-60 in under five seconds and would do, what, 180mph if unrestricted?Equipment levels aren't bad either, buy an Audi R8 for £30K more and you'll pay extra again for things like cruise control.
I'm struggling to think what else gets near this level of quality and performance for the money, and nothing else is a proper coupe AND a convertible.
They do look nicer in the flesh. Cabin space is a bit cramped though and there is restricted legroom on the passenger side (same as a standard SLK).
The equipment list isn't perhaps quite as generous as it should be at the price.
The 55 does sound nice, quite a bit more subtle than a C63, but still very good. I like the idea of a V8 that doesn't drink quite so much fuel.
White with a read leather interior does seem to suit it in the flesh, the silvers and greys are perhaps a bit muted. Of course, there is always the option of any colour you want at a price!

Indeed, I wonder whether they have done that for technical reasons on that engine or whether it's nature better suits the SLK's top-down cruiser status? Then again, it could just be about price or distancing it a bit more from the C63.JDs Paul said:

And yes - love to see how that engine works in the real world. Its been done before I think hasn't it.

Bi Xenons, electric memory seats, electric memory steering wheel adjustment, COMAND sat nav, digital radio, 10GB music register, nappa leather, cruise control, automatic transmission, eco stop/start, 18" alloys, metallic paint, attention assist monitoring, tyre pressure monitoring, Blue tooth phone connection, heated seats, interior light package, etc etc.What's missing..?

The full colour central display from the C, parking sensors, folding mirrors, auto wipers, dual zone climate control, piano black/ash wood finish.All things that some may not consider important, but at it's price point feel strangely lacking. Not a big criticism as I still think it looks like being a great car.

The auto wipers is an odd one though, if I remember correctly its something like £75! Why on earth is that an option and yet electric steering wheel adjustment is standard!

£ 95 inc VAT for the wipers and then £ 680 for parking sensors! A not too extravagent, reasonable spec on the car sees a price of about £ 58 - £ 59k.The auto wipers is an odd one though, if I remember correctly its something like £75! I think the spec is good, but there's always something you have to pay extra for... (Agree the rain sensor is mean though).Doesn't stop me liking the car though, just surprised about some of the stuff you have to pay for as options.
