Hi all, has anyone driven both these ? Is the 3ltr that much more powerful bearing in mind its weight disadvantage.
Any comparisons ,thanks.

I have driven the C250 and C350 diesels.

I chose the C250; the loss of 15mpg and £70 a month more in tax didn't make the extra 60hp worth it for me. That extra 60hp translates into one second difference in 0-60 times too and from the seat of the pants the car didn't feel hugely more powerful. The V6 is very refined however.

I think the C320 was a single turbo 224hp so only 20hp difference. I wouldn't imagine it is noticeably any more quick than the C250, and may even be a little more laggy that the 2.2 twin turbo, but will be a quieter more refined engine.

Note that the older C250s were not as good as the facelifts on MPG, so the 15MPG gap I cite above may be a bit more like 10MPG comparing a 2009-2010 C250 to the V6.

From that I conclude you don't know what you're talking about.

Its a very well designed unit, strong, quiet, well balanced, do your homework.

If you're referring to the injector issues, if a car suffers them, they'll be changed under warranty - so the problem will occur, be sorted, life goes on - hardly breaking down every 2 minutes is it? Name a car that hasn't had some sort of recall? Merc suffered because it was a major issue which swamped them when it hit, I'd be surprised if most of the cars that are likely to have issues haven't been sorted by now.

I have one, and did a lot of reading up on tech specs and reviews from an engineering perspective before doing getting it, what are your qualifications or experiences that enable you to advise us on the engine?

Facelift cars have fancy headlights on the sport or 2 round foglights each side on the SE/Elegance

Also have nicer interior with colour LCD screen on all models.

Facelift are 61-plate onwards mostly, some 11-plate cars out there (the facelift occurred during the 11-plate).

My dad had an early E250CDI, when the engine first came out. He had all the injector problems. He rejected the car but agreed to let them have a 'second chance' and supply a new car (which was about this time last year so a 60 plate) - he has had no problems at all with the new car in 20000 miles.

Massive difference on interior quality on facelift too, and the new 7g+ 'box which is why you get 45mpg+ instead of 35mpg on the 250cdi.

Make sure you consider contract hire, some killer deals out there.

£1800 deposit and £302 a month for a new C250cdi sport Edition 125 7 speed auto, that is including vat, and was only £335 to up the mileage to 18k miles per annum.

You couldn't buy a 3 year old one with 50k miles on it for cash and loose less that that.

My car is a facelift March 2011 car, so right at the start of the 11 plates, easily spotted by different headlights and tail lights, slightly different rear bumper & diffuser, and DRLs though I think the DRLs were also available pre-facelift as part of a package.

The interior is much nicer (was in my brother-in-laws pre-facelift C180 yesterday), the latest COMAND with media interface is superb.

Mine is the C220 cdi which is the same engine as the C250 in lesser tune, 45mpg all day long, torquey, smooth, quiet - I imagine the C250 would be lovely.

C250 CDI = 4 cylinder racket.

C320 CDI = 6 cylinder symphony (and it is more powerful with greater torque).

No discussion (there may be a small percentage chance that I own a C320 CDI!)

If you're comparing C250 cdi vs. C320 cdi (as opposed to the newer C350 cdi) then its 204bhp vs. 221 bhp and 500Nm vs. 510Nm, pretty close.

The 6 cylinder engine will be smoother and sound nicer, of that I've no doubt, but in day to day real world driving the smaller engine's higher mpg, and lower cost to buy and tax mean it shouldn't be ignored, the performance gap between the 4 and 6 cylinder engines isn't as big as it was.

C250 and Harman Kardon. Problem solved.

But yes, it is very noisy and the V6 is much more refined.

If I was doing 15-20k miles a year I would have gone for the V6. Unfortunately I do more like 36k a year.

It was with loads of the brokers.
But it was also 2 quarters ago and the deals are completely different now.

Next round of deals will be in June I would guess, or if they have shifted enough metal, which I think Mercedes have, then September.

The deals at the moment don't look bad at all... beats the life out of BMW or Audi alternatives... though it is probably more like 2100+350pcm

Just completed my first long journey in my C250 cdi, from Stansted in Essex to Scotch Corner via A120, M11, A14 and A1, just over 200 miles, MPG as indicated by on-board computer 68.3 but actual when refilled to brim 65 MPG. ( Average speed 65mph, cruise control strictly on 72mph where possible).
My previous best was 57.7, so very pleased with this 204 bhp sports saloon.
