best way to compress a .mov file ?

Can anyone recommend software (free download) to compress a 38 MB .Mov file and what kind of quality and compression I can expect ? (its a movie of my car in the scottish borders)
I downloaded AVI software and converted the .Mov file to .MPEG and it ended up great quality but 333 MB
or maybe the best place to upload the file to be able to share... ?
any advice appreciated

Best compression I know is 7zip.
http://www.7-zip.org/
But MPEG is already a compressed format so you will not be able to compress it a lot more.
To mail large files I use :
http://www.transferbigfiles.com/
To compress a video file you could use AVI.net , and convert to XVID.
http://www.clonead.co.uk/
XVID file could be uploaded to Youtube to share.

What resolution is it now? How long is the movie?
What size do you need it to be - and what will you want to play it back on? TV? ipod? Mobile?
It's less about the Codec, more about the target size, and acceptable quality. Once you have determined that there is a fairly small range of potential files sizes...
If you want to upload it somewhere I'm sure a few of us can try some variants for you...
