How exactly do you do it? I'm moving house in 2 weeks and won't need to take the line with me. Their website is less than helpful and I am NOT risking another 45 minute phone call to one of their retarded call centres without checking that they can actually do what I need first.

When I moved last, I called them up, listened to the crappy message and pressed the approrpriate number to say I was "moving home" and was all sorted in about 10 minutes.

I've just had to go through the whole farce - sadly, calling them seems to be the easiest way...

Try not pressing any buttons this time ,and if message turns to one saying "say ,One/Two etc" -give them a raspberry -should then go to default and straight to human being .Another trick is to choose the "Iwant to leave BT"option .

Make sure they haven't contracted you in for something daft like 'Friends and Family' for 12 months. I had to get very nasty with them and still failed to get out of it until I got a friend who works for them involved.

I hate, no, HATE BT!

Totally agree.

Apparently I was "contracted" by them without even knowing about it. I moved everything to Virgin (phone, tv, b/band) and a month later I get a bill from fking BT asking me for bloody £85 the cheeky tts. They didn't say a fking word when I cancelled and when i got the bill it took me two fking lifetimes to get through to a human who agreed with what I said, but surprise fking surprise couldn't do fk all about it!! I have to write a letter to them and refuse to pay the cheeky fkers. I didn't get told I was in any fking contract at any time until I rang the bds up..!!!!

I had to pay £122 to have my house connected to BT... Why the hell do I have to pay them for the privilage of paying them?! I don't pay E.ON to go to a substation and flick the swicth that sends electricity to my house, British Gas don't ask for any money to switch on the gas, and water companies don't demand a ransom before I can flush the toilet furiousfuriousfurious

I don't get how a monopoly company is allowed to get away with charging such high prices for connection when other utilities don't charge the user a penny - all they have to do is go to a green box in the street and flick a switch...

Thanks guys, looks like I'll have to brave their call centre tomorrow. Did get "persuaded" (they didn't mention any contract, so maybe "conned" is a better word) to take out their special evening and weekend calls offer, but that was back in 2007 and I'm pretty sure it's finished by now.
