I’m trying to import a DBF file into Excel. I’m not sure what the source format is. I thought it was Dbase with the file extension but Excel or Access doesn’t recognise it. Also, in the same directory are two files called foxuser.dbf and fxouser.fpt that make me think it could be a Fox-Pro file. Anyone know how to get one of these into Excel or what other format it may be?

Import it to Access perhaps as a transitional step?

You should be able to define the DBF file as a data source and get at it that way...

try dbfviewer, this will export to a number of formats, including csv, xls and HTML

plotloss... you are da man! Imported to Access using ODBC and then dumped out to Excel. Never played around with ODBC before. Always thought it was for the techies . Oh, and it was a fox-pro file BTW (who uses that now ). Thanks for the other ideas folks.

FWIW, you can use the Access DB5 ISAM to import fox dbf files without having to go through ODBC...

...Yes I am unlucky enough to still be using Fox. But it's on Unix... (I'll just be grabbing my pipe and cane and leave methinks)
