Oh my god, you mean we're not the only company to use this crap?!
Whats up? If I can't help, I know a man who can.

Hi
well i've ahd this nw5 sbe server sat in a corner for a couple of years doing nothing much apart from running the security for nt4 workstations in an exhibition hall.
basic groupwise was installed ( the poa and mta) but never used on that box.
the box was specced up to run the main lan but htey've never got around to it untill now.
the plan is to use groupwise as the internal and external mail server and to this ends i've
1) added a cisco 837 router with a static external address and nat on port 25 to the netware box.
2) mx record set to point to the router
3) set static route and dns routes on the nw box ping now resolves fine from the server
now when i run the installer for th e internet it says it carnt see the internet ? i carried on an installed it anyway but i carnt telnet in on port 25 and if i create a message it rejects the external e-mail address.
so i think maybe there are two problems
1) internet connection setup on the server
2) gwia connection top the rest of groupwise
ta G
Yep everything is on the same nw server.
the gwia is complaining it carnt get internet conectivity on install
but doesnt report any errors when running.
i've checked tcpcon and with the gwia running there is a smtp listner.
but i carnt telnet in on port 25.
maybe ther is a nat problem...
but the server can resolve a domain name and ping out.
The other problem is when creating a mail in the client it rejects and internet e-mail address as invalid as if the gwia isnt talking to the post office....
it gets even better. i decided to reinstall the whole groupwise system to atleast see if i could get all the bits to talk to each other....
Guess which CD is missing from the safe with all the other netware disks...
anyone got a nw 5 sbe groupwise disk argh.....

Can you telnet to port 25 internally - ie. without NAT in the way? If you haven't set up static NAT (or port forwarding) properly on the router then it should be able to connect out. Thus ping and the like will work regardless.
My memory is a little hazy as I haven't set up a system (just maintained) for a while, but if you go into C1 and look at the system/domain/PO there's places in there to specify internet gateways. If there wasn't one set there before it would explain the errors at the client/PO about sending internet mail. Will be a bit easier at work tomorrow when I can have a working GW system in front to me to check
