philips webcam

got a philips pcvc740k cam from pc world today to talk on msm but it doesnt blummin work on msm, turned off firewall and checked options, everything looks fine.
It has a built in mic and i have used it with msm after a fashion. other person is running windows xp and i'm on 98 does that make a difference as is saya it does somewhere on help, can't think why though. Any suggestions before it gets stamped on or returned today? I can recieve their webcam stream but zilch from mine. Also had some problems setting up the software.

Check in normal use if the camera works.

If not may be because you have other USB devices plugged in and not enough power to suplply the camera and other stuff.

If the camera works, download the new version of msm

Thanks, went and returned Philips this morning for a cheaper (msm compatable labelled) cam, loaded it all and same as last time when it comes to the tweaking picture page all i get is a black screen although audio works fine.
I have 2 usb ports at the back and used to have a smart card adapter in 1 so i took that out. Also i have a usb/optical mouse but that goes through a round adapter into the mouse connection (not USB).
i think there is a conflict of drivers or what the pc thinks is connected maybe, to be honest i haven't a clue! being that this is the second cam it means that it must be on the pc. I have the latest version of MSM6 messenger. I don't want to quit on this but i must have loaded and deleted 100 000 files in the last 24 hrs and done all the scan disk/windoctor etc after each uninstall.
I only have GenuineIntel Family 6 Model 7 501 MHz Stepping 3 processor with 2gb(free) hard drive and an uprated 520ram.
