Computer crashing!!
Discussion
Just today, my computer starts crashing whilst on the internet. It comes up with a box, saying windows shutdown, and it says a problem connectind with an RPC??
It has a count-down from 1 minute and then shuts itself down. I've deleted anything new i've put on my computer from today. What could it be?? I've run virus checker and ad-aware and nothing came up.
Aprreciate the re[;ies
Thanks Gary

Guys, it looks like you are surfing without a personal firewall. Don't. You will be amazed at the amount of attempts to penetrate your PC while surfing from scumbag scrpt kiddies and nosey b'stards.
Download and install Zonealarm (www.zonealarm.com).

This is a global worm attack - looks like a prelude to a DoS attack being planned for the 16th. The vulnerability is on ports using RCP protocol, see below:
CERT said:
This is a vulnerability within the Microsoft Windows Operating System (2000/XP/2003), that allows
anybody to get full control of the computer. This security hole was found around 3 weeks ago, and
microsoft has made patches available to protect computers against it. Most people are not actively
checking for updates, and that leaves most computers from our users unprotected.
Security organisations on the internet confirmed that a worm is spreading very rapidly on the internet
scanning randomly IP addresses, and infecting the computers it was capable of hack into. This program
now continues its actions as well from this new infected computer
(see for more info http://isc.sans.org/diary.html?date=2003-08-11 ).
Here is I believe a solution. It contains details and a downloadable solution.
Must remember to put Norton back on and update the patches.

Frankly, I wouldn't bother with Norton. Symantec's code is, in my experience and from what I hear, buggy and slow. For AV, I use AVG (www.grisoft.com), which is free and fast. Firewall -- use ZoneLabs.
