Take a look at the netgear wireless access points and routers, excellent value for money imho

you need a pcmcia wireless card for the laptop and combined ethernet/wireless access point. I did the sensible thing and bought a Netgear DG824M which is a combined ADSL Modem/Router/Switch/Firewall with 4 ethernet ports and a built in wireless access point - when I bought it, it came with a free pcmcia wireless card for my laptop.

I now have the girlfriends PC connected via ethernet cable to the Netgear, two laptops and an IPAQ PDA connected wirelessly.

I'd say sell the modem and by a DG824M as it's much easier to set up than lots of different equipment.

I bought mine from insight.co.uk for £170 with the free pcmcia card, comes with a cat5 ethernet cable and one ADSL Filter - takes all of 10 mins to setup, but make sure that once you are setup you go to the netgear site and download the latest firmware (1.4) as it adds extra features.
