DVD burning software

Right - I built myself a spanking new PC a few weeks ago, complete with an NEC ND1300A DVD-RW. The problem is, I don't have any software for it (that I can get to work).

I have Nero 5 (fine for CD-ROMs) but the DVD check boxes are greyed out (even after I've installed the DVD plugin).

Can anyone recommend a foolproof bit of software - I'm looking at backing up data to DVD rather than making films...

Nero 5 - but you need the latest patch level to recognise that shiny new DVD writer.

Ben - XP recognizes DVD writers out of the box. If you are using XP, you don't have to add another software layer, just use the built in facility for backing up files...

this happened to me and it was caused by my version of Nero 5.5.XX being an OEM version supplied with a CDRW drive. Unfortunately if this is the case it will only work for the drive it was supplied with.
There are ways around this that involve 'unofficial patches...'
Wouldn't know where to look for those though
