Every time i log on i get a sex site automatically pop up first. This could turn out to be embarrasing, if i log on if someone else in the room . Can someone out there advise how to get rid of it for good, in 'laymens' terms?

I had the same - my browser seemed to have been taken over by some "tdko" thingy. Ran SpyBot but it didn't fully clear it and it was still lurking on the browser. Ran AdAware too, on advice of other PHers, and it worked and I'm still clear. So I think the message is run both SpyBot and AdAware. Good luck

And if neither spybot or adaware work, take a note of the name of the program (or the url) and type it into google.
Woops, don't type in the url and go to it though. Just look for the part that identifies them.
You wont be the only person trying to get rid of it.
Some of these infections are particularly tenacious.

The following program is a lovely routine which will remove and protect your start page.

I have it as I had a similar thing to you where my start page kept changing to a search engine. This fixed it up and kept it fixed.
