Windows Media Player still rips CDs (I think).

Failing that VLC Media Player does, and is very good.

Hasn't it stopped auto-updating the artist and track information?

Rip CD is also available in MusicBee

I has indeed.

I came to rip a few CDs not long ago, and the track info did not appear. After some searching, I found that feature has been dropped.

After trying a few, I found MediaMonkey was the best of a piss poor bunch.

I've been using fre:ac audio converter - www.freac.org - as it has free artist and track info.

Is CD Ripper by Nero still any good?

I used to use it a few years ago and it was pretty good and free
