Websites, why is it so difficult to make contact?
Discussion
I already know the answer, just a bit of a rant.
TLDR; someone called me a ……! Not as interesting as it sounds, click bait.
Recently I’ve come across an increasing number of websites that either have no contact details or make it very difficult to initiate contact.
Some aggregator sites, where the existence of the site is a driver for a commercial entity make contact very difficult, often using pre-assigned question and chatbot contacts, if one was susceptible to a little ‘tin hattery’ one may be excused for thinking they’re actively discouraging you from making contact.
Large companies often seem reticent to engage, I recently reported what I thought was fake produce to a large manufacturer of dairy products; It seemed up to me to pursue it.
Then we have the catch 22, no register, no contact, you’re stuck at trying to register
Couple of days back, I tried to register with a motorcycle forum, I got a message informing, I should
“Fornicate off, you scamming (member of the) California University Netball Team
While I’m aware our two wheeled brethren can be rather forthright, I didn’t feel such a response was appropriate.
To give it some context, both my IP address and email address are based in China, probably why it flagged up.
I appreciate its probably run by a group of volunteers, with a fair amount falling on the shoulders of ‘Biker IT bod Tim’.
I did feel however, that they might like to know in what circumstances their jolly little welcome note pops up.

I recently had difficulty contacting a company with the name of a 'high street bank', not one in many high streets anymore. It took me ages. I phoned the bank, but they said it was nothing to do with them. I went to the bank, only to be told the same. I eventually phoned a number I knew was incorrect and acted like a befuddled 90-year-old. Hopefully good practice. I got put through to someone who put me through to someone who could help me. Writing an honest review, pointing out it could have cost me money, was no satisfaction. Even worse, they decided to tell me I'd incurred a £12 charge.
I time and date every phone call, and record those when someone answers - so I don't take up much storage space. Once you tell them that, their response changes.
'We'll have someone contact you,' is easy to say, not so say to do evidently.
