Looking forward to this; more so the iPadOS

Seeing as I've just agreed to take VR today from Meta (whom I've worked for since April 2022); I'll be handing back my MBA

So I'll be buying myself an iPad Pro M4 13" - more so as I've got myself an M4 Mac Mini etc - but want the portability of the iPad rather than a MacBook now

The latest OS looks to be revolutionary - paired with the Apple Magic Keyboard it'll be a cracking set up

I’m on an iPad Pro 13 typing this, tends to be my go to in front of the TV or when I’m in the bath, or the garden and I want to watch some TV. That nano screen is great.

I have never picked it up to do work instead of my MBP as it just seems that bit more difficult and the MBP just as convenient to flip open the lid.

I read that OS26 across all devices is supposed to give them more of a common feel, let’s see how that pans out.

I bought an 11” M4 iPad Pro and magic keyboard last year and I’m really looking forward to the release of the new iOS. I also have a M3 Macbook Air with only 7 battery cycles in the last year, which shows how much I prefer the iPad. One of the reasons is the screen on the iPad is outstanding and I really notice the difference when I switch to the MBA.

The magic keyboard, whilst expensive, really transforms the iPad into something you can use everyday. That being said, my dream Apple release would be a new 12” Macbook with an M chip and a decent keyboard. The form factor of my old 2017 12” Macbook was superb.

Agree - 15" MBA M3 here (goes back on Monday) - so M4 iPad Pro 13" wifi/5G ordered yesterday and now on the hunt for a more sensibly priced Apple Magic Keyboard on eBay (I am not paying £400) laugh

I've gone for the Spigen Aramid case too which allows you to attach it to the case and its charges as it should; but then detach it for normal use too smile

Never had the 'big' iPad Pro before - looking forward to it landing

I also have a 15" MacBook Air M3, bought it for a new starter who didn't end up starting so I took it home with me for the wife/kids to use, I wasn't a fan of the speakers or the screen compared to the Pro tbh but the size if great for desktop use if a little on the large size for my laptop bag.

New 14" MBP with nano screen being delivered today so have a Pro with M2 Max/32GB/1TB SSD for sale if anyone is in need.

See I like the MBA - think it's a great device. Plus the budget I had was £1200 - so it fitted perfectly

Alas; can't keep it so will factory reset it this afternoon and box it up for collection on Monday. Sad times but it is what it is

Your Mac will sell in no time on eBay - they always do

I'll also put this here, absolutely no affiliation other than they're the only company I've found offering relatively decent value for money with real, good quality, leather. I'm the geek with matching laptop/ipad/phone cases tongue out

Thread resurrection!

Currently running iOS 18.7.1 on my iPhone 16 Pro. I keep seeing iOS 26.2 lurking in my settings. Should I upgrade? Are there any good reasons not to?

I like it, I’m not the most tech savvy person on PH but the update just seems so user friendly. I was starting to struggle with reading small text etc and now everything seems that wee clearer. It feels crisper and cleaner if that makes sense?

The only drawback for me is slightly noticeable battery life and it takes up a bit more space.

My view is that, certainly the way I use it, there is no real difference whatsoever.

I would be wary of going to iOS 26 if your hardware is ageing or does not have the resources to power it. My iPad is 6 years old and my iPhone is 5 years old, so I won’t be upgrading soon….

It works fine for me, but it looked horrible at first.
Until I found that you can easily change the appearance, as the menu options were not the same..
Home screen
Press & Hold
Edit
Customise
Had a play with that, looks better now!

So far...
  • Fiddled with the appearance. It was more elaborate by default but at the expense of clarity.
  • Changed the settings on Safari to get it back to the previous setup where you could easily access tabs.
  • Looking through photos stored in an iCloud folder you now have to press and hold on one of the thumbnails and select "Quick Look" in the pop up to be able to swipe through photos, or it opens an image in Preview, which might be useful if you want to edit an image but usually you just want to look through some. Then you have to go back out of the image to open the next one. Faff! To me they've got the priorities the wrong way round with this.
  • The battery precentage at the top right is still nigh on impossible to read.
  • They still haven't provided the ability to mute EVERYTHING when in Silent Mode. How fking hard is it to understand that when people want their phone to be silent they want it to be fkING SILENT? mad Alarm clock, yes. Timers, yes. Music and audio from videos? NO!!!!!

There is a weird bug with iOS26 since it’s launch on iPad with magic keyboard that still hasn’t been resolved; when you are typing on a magic keyboard (pre iOS26) you would have predictive inline text, which was really helpful. This hasn’t been working and the only solution (via Apple support forum) is to turn off windowed apps or stage manager then it returns. Not ideal given that was a big selling point of iOS26.

I have an iPhone 11 and an iPad Air 2.

Anyone taken the plunge and upgraded either of these devices? Is performance acceptable?

I m on 18.5 and can t update (even to 18.7) due to lack of storage apparently (ipad 64gb). I really don t care though!

The only thing on here is 10gb of photos the rest is apple system data and apple iOS - It s full of their own st!

I also pay for icloud storage and have the ‘optimise ipad storage’ ticked so work that one out

Reset it and most of the “system data” will go. There was over 20gb on mine.

+1

My iPad Pro 1st Generation (10 years old now) had used up all of the storage to the point that some apps refused to open, I recently erased/reset it and restored from the most recent iCloud backup so it was just the same as before (except all the apps open now!) yet had 14 of 32GB free.

Storage or lock of is an issue on a lot of older IOS devices. They really should have a separate storage system for the operating systems. I’m on my second iPad, this one is three years old and they never go wrong, but it too will end up on the scrap heap when I don’t have enough storage.

Despite that I could never go back to using Microsoft products.
