BT new fiber router and TP link
Discussion
Hi guys,
Bit of a strange problem here, we got upgraded to BT fiber a while ago. We have always run the WIFI through a TP link router that has an ethernet connection to the BT home hub. When we were upgraded and got a new hub the TP link would not have any internet access at all from the new router. Eventually a did a factory reset on the TP link and then it all seemed to work fine, TP link was getting internet via ethernet and wifi in the house was fine.
Then this morning we had a power cut and now the problems back. No internet to the TPL router despite the BT fibre hub being fine. Logging to the home hub shows that it sees the TP connection, the TP management screen keeps saying 'no internet', factory reset today about 5 times and even changed the TPL to be an access point but it just will not get any internet access. All the guides keep saying to turn everything on and off, check the wires and then it should all be fine.
Am I missing an obvious check here?
thanks

Could you not use the TP link for both wired and wireless internet - by using it as a replacement for the BT fibre router to which I assume the incoming ethernet is connected.
I suspect the primary issue you are having here is both devices are issuing IP addresses in the same range and thereby clashing with each other.

The Gigabit WAN port - was working totally fine until the powercut
As already suggested above, try plugging the cable from BT's ONT box directly into the WAN Port and connect a laptop with ethernet to the router so you can access it.The broadband username is bthomehub@btbroadband.com
No password is actually needed by BT, but if the Router insists use BT.
As it's not working ATM, personally I'd factory reset the Router first.
This should get the router connected to the internet ... if it doesn't then the question is how old is it?
TP-Link Warranty on SOHO products is 3 years now I believe, I've used them in the past and they've been really good.
Thanks for the advice
I can't plug the BT line into the TP link as the line that goes in is a phone line and doesn't fit into the wan port.
But I took the TP link to my friends house to try on his router and it works fine?
I then plugged all the ethernets from the TP into the BTHH and none of them seem to be getting any internet?
v confusing

I d suggest taking things in steps and try and work out where the issue is.
Power off both the bt hh & the tp link device.
Power back on the bt hub, connect a pc/mac via Ethernet to the to the home hub, confirm the details of its ip address.
The first three sections of its ip are range, the last is it s ip, so 192.168.0.5 would be a range of 192.168.0 & a ip of 5. You need to take a note of this.
Then perform a factory reset of the tp link device and connect the same computer to its ethernet ports not the wan port, also do not connect it to anything else, confirm what ip address you have now.
The range should be different to the range on the bt hub, if they are the same then you have a ip address conflict.
If you are unable to get IP s from either device then it s likely they are at fault.
Let us know how that goes.
