Toshiba 40lf2f53db tv setup issues

Thought i had nothing better to do than treat an elderly 93 year old neighbour friend to a new tv,as she's had a life changing stroke and is wheelchair bound.
Done all the usual auto tune channel cack but after it i had '1' channel,BBC1!!,nothing else,and the other brain numbing fault was the remote wouldn't go up and down the channels but everything else on it worked??
So she has a Virgin tivo box and i've left her on the input that's connected to,so i've left her with using her Tivo remote for everything and switching off and on the tv with her new remote.
