Taking over a Facebook Group with AWOL Admin

How/can this be done? I'm part of a Facebook group with about 1700 people but the original guy who set it up has long since disappeared and there are a few of us who want to take control of it. We've tried every way to contact him but he has not been on the page since 2021.

Any ideas?

Set up another group and get people to migrate. Keep posting migrate messages in the old group

Whilst it is possible to battle with Facebook to get them to appoint a new group admin in the event that the existing one is absent, ultimately you won’t be able to remove the founder from the group admin group so you’ll be left wondering if they will swoop back in one day after their social media holiday is over.

Starting a new group is probably a better option, particularly as it will allow you to filter out the non active members of the old group as well as put in place some membership joining controls to reduce potential spammer/fake accounts.

Thanks guys, it has been suggested about starting a new group and as with most groups, the vast majority are not active.

Just as an update to this, we didn't hear back from the admin and so someone just created a new group and all the current owners joined that one.
