I've got a 2018 MacBook Air and over then last few months it seems that when I turn it on, after being off for a few days, the battery has drained.

I've been careful to ensure that I unplug the power adapter before beginning the shut down procedure and I also put caps lock on so that I can watch the light go out before closing the lid. But still I get the drain.

Battery health says normal.

I run AVG anti virus and AVG Tuneup - the latter a mistaken purchase a year or so ago - but would have thought that if I do a shutdown nothing should be running, even in background.

I've searched the web for answers and the only thing that comes up is battery leakage but the battery health states normal. As the battery is now 7 years old could it be that even though it states normal?

Frustrating to say the least.

Cheers!

In system settings where it says Battery Health- Normal, click in the little i and it should tell maximum capacity compared to new. What does it say?

It’s not where you state but when you right click the battery icon on the menu bar it shows as 92%so it’s in good nick I would say.

Just a bump for the morning crew to see if anyone has any ideas about this?

Have you tried checking the 'Energy' tab in the Activity Monitor app (Applications->Utilities->Activity Monitor) to see if any apps have taken significant power over the last 12 hours?

Are you sure you are shutting down the device and not just putting it to sleep?

I was going to suggest looking at the Energy Monitor too.... Have you tried closing all the apps, bar the one you are using, to see if that makes a difference?

Are you charging to 100% with every charge? Try something free like AlDente to limit the charge to 80% - better for battery life. smile

As above, will check EM.

I do charge to 100% but the thing is 7 years old and the issue has only emerged in the last few months.

Thanks for the tip re. AlDente.

The only good thing is that I only use it in the house so always power available but I’d still like to understand what is going on.
