How to delete 'notifications center' button on iPhone 16?

It's a movable button that when touched opens a panel titled 'notifications center' containing nothing of interest to me. It frequently gets in the way of a camera app that has buttons all the way round the screen.

Google seems to think it can't be got rid of. It's not a widget inasmuch as press and hold doesn't bring up an option to delete.
