I need a new laptop, mainly for browsing, photo storage, e-mail and office based apps. Is this any good for the price or is there better for less?

I would say that is a good price for the spec of laptop.

Agreed, just make sure you can get on with a 14 inch screen. My laptop has a 16 inch 16:10 ratio screen and everything else seems tiny after this.

Thanks both. Not dosed about a 14" screen, more spec versus price smile

For browsing and secretarial stuff, you might find a £300 laptop much the same as that £800 one.

That's a OLED screen, be aware that you can see the fine wires that make up the touchscreen when looking at it.

(but you probably know that if you're standing next to it biggrin)

Highly desirable for me is a separate numeric keypad area. Entering numbers along the top is a pain.

Wouldn’t touch anything with a 13th gen cpu, they have so many problems. Also that is H processor, way over powered for your use case. I have a 12th Gen H processor in my laptop, it sounds like a jet turbine under light load. It has serious cooling requirements, and not something to be taken on lightly, unless you NEED it.

If you must have a Windows laptop, I’d be looking for something with a low voltage core ultra chip inside.

Personally, the advantages of Apple silicon are such (battery life, heat, performance), a Macbook Air would be my first choice for a general purpose machine.

Intel finally caved in and took delivery of the latest EUV machines from ASML, so looking forward to seeing what their chips will be like next year. Perhaps they will become competitive again.

Overkill for your needs. Costco have these online, still plenty power and under £500:

I'd rather windows than apple. Not after anything amazing, just reliable with decent memory

Absolutely - wasn't a criticism. I'm a keen gamer, and a multiple laptop owner, and nothing I have is more than an i7. My gaming desktop is an i7, my Surface Pro an i7, and my HP Pavilion touch screen laptop an i5.

That Asus looks nice - its nto touch screen mind you.

I am obsessive about the cleanliness of my laptop screen, and if my partner is about to point to something on the screen I will say "don't touch it"

I couldn't be doing with all the fingerprints and smears.
