Been a while since I posted on PH full stop, but especially new here...

For context, sadly, my good friend's FIL passed away a couple of months ago from MND.

He bloody loved his gaming, collectables, etc. - absolutely a self confessed nerd and enjoyed every minute.

Now, her mum is ready to start the difficult process of getting rid, for want of a better phrase, of his stuff and of course, I said I'd help out where I can.

Dave has a very high-spec gaming PC he had built up for him 2 years ago which cost almost 5 grand (I'm not sure his wife knew at the time!)

If I upload a spec, can you guys help with:

1. How much is _might_ be worth?

2. Where's the best place to advertise it for sale?

I did ask both these questions on Overclockers but as a new member they booted me straight off like I was trying to scam someone - fair enough.

Spec to follow, thanks in advance!

Louis

Sorry about the loss.

I'm sure someone can give you an idea.

Just be prepared that it may have dropped quite a bit from the £5k that was paid, depending on what parts were put in and how much was customisation markup.

Ebay would be my bet with a high reserve once you know the specs or you could break it down.

You could compare the specs with ready made PCs you can buy now to give you an idea.

Does he not have any teenage relatives?

thanks both, like most things I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s halved in value - no lucky teens to benefit either sadly - if it comes to it I’ll raffle it for the MNDA, but in the first instance I want to try and make sure the family are financially stable

The sad truth is £5k new is nowhere near that used and £5k two years ago is nowhere near that now.

I'd be tempted to break it for parts and eBay them, however obviously that entails effort etc.

It goes without saying that you need to sanitise the data.

It's worth about £1000-1250 imo

AM4 Platform is dead now and also the GPU is 2 Generations old.

Still a very capable machine though.

yeah I can clean it up, good point, but breaking it is beyond me! Don’t mind taking a spanner to the car, but this is a different kettle of fish 😂

It's a good pc but getting on for 5 year old tech, really hard to estimate what it's worth, don't worry about breaking it down, it's like lego, mind out for the watercooling though.

I'd honestly stick it on ebay for a grand or something maybe 1500 and see if it sold.

Agree with this, the graphics card goes for about £550 to 600 on eBay.

The water cooled stuff has less mass market appeal but the graphics card (rtx 3090) alone sells used on ebay for between £650-900. It's not worth £5k but it's still a pretty beefy system despite having some slightly dated components. Probably worth more in parts rather than a functional system.

the graphics card jumped out at me too, the family were offered under 600 for the whole thing, so I don’t want them being taken advantage of

Someone would be stealing it at that price. It's worth at least double that at a minimum.

A very similar spec PC went for £1299 on eBay last month I think the estimate above of £1000 to £1250 is bang on the money

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/176790251195?_skw=3900+...

Another similar one went for £1070

I am so grateful for the advice, thanks all - made me remember how much I love this forum!

I’ll get it on eBay and if you’re interested, update with the result.

Cheers, Louis
